Hello!

My husband was just diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and it's going to be a few days until he's able to see a nutritionist about his new diet. I was wondering if there's an adventist-based dieting system out there? I've seen the FirstPlace diet and I think it's a good idea, but I'd feel better knowing that our program would have an adventist leaning given the stress we put on health and science.

Thanks!

You can contact Dr. Im, an Adventist doctor. I had the privilege of meeting him and listening to his amazing testimonies. http://stopcancer.com/cleansing_way_testimonials1.htm

Also you can contact Dr. McDougall. http://www.drmcdougall.com/ Dr. McDougall is a leading physician on health and diet and has his own TV show.

The CHIP program(Coronary Health Improvement Program/Project)is excellent. Following this program most people with type 2 diabetes have been able to improve to the point where they no longer need medications (for diabetes, and high blood pressure).

At our church, we did the Wellspring program, which is similar to CHIP. (CHIP is designed for people who are concerned about their heart health while Wellspring specifically deals with diabetes.) It is really good, but for it to make a difference, you have to make a commitment to change your long-term eating habits and not just go through the program and then go back to your old way of doing things. Many people liked the food, but it was kind of a novelty to them and not something that they had the motivation to keep doing after the program ended. Here are a couple of links for information about Wellspring:
