If they don't know that could explain some of the nonsense that gets made up about what is done in the SDA church. The critics don't get out enough!

In the TV show Cheers when Norm walks in they call out his name--you don't want that when you walk into a pick up joint (every once in awhile we'd embarras a friend!)--and if they call out her name, you don't want her.

This is a true story as I was there...

We were sitting around with our gaggle of guys and girls at CUC tennis courts and one of the guys was telling of a girl that had gotten into trouble in one of our schools in the islands (I will allow that to remain annonymous). She had been so brazen in her 'behaviour' and the events so scandalous that her reputation was known far and wide.....right about that time one of the girls turned red as a tomato and to our great shock, confessed it was she..........

I agree that todays dancing is out of hand but does that say all dancing is bad? Go back and read in 2 Samuel where David dances and sings while the Ark of God is being transported. David also says in the Psalms about dancing to the Lord. Psalms 150:4; Praise him with tambourine and dance; praise him with strings and pipe! If this is against God then shouldn't God have punished David for it? God didn't.
What about the Jew's? They are still God's people and they dance at weddings, coming out parties, etc. Are they wrong?
My dad danced with me as a child which by EGW standards leads to sinful lust. I don't think so. My parents taught me to dance and the right and wrong way to handle it. Today there are not boundries and that has made it hard others who do have boundries.
Yes I agree that when alcohol is added to the mix then peoples inhabitions do go down the toilet.
Again I reiterate that anything can be abused if you want to. It should be up to the individual and God to decide and not the church (EGW) to say NO!
I dance around my house with and without my husband to the praise of God so does that make me wrong?
When I was in the church I was very fearful of daring to dance to the Lord that He would strike me dead. Since leaving God has shown me that it is o-kay to dance.
Again I say use comon sense!!

Well if you can find a church that actually 'dances to the Lord', I might do a step or two........;)

I don't think the people who are clubbing are dancing in any way to glorify God, most anyone you ask at a club will tell you dancing has a purpose, and its not a holy purpose.

Are people required to do everythin in regard to a holy purpose...???

What about watching TV? Most people do it (SDAs), is it a holy purpose? I doubt it... thing is they do it in order to relax or slay time... other people practice sports... other people like to dance...

Was dancing anywhere forbidden in the bible?

It's a combination of the style of music and the moves that the music produces that makes dancing evil.

Music has a very powerful influence on the mind and emotions. King David was soothed through music from the oppression of an tormenting spirit sent by God.

1 Samuel 16:23 So it came about whenever the tormenting spirit from God came to Saul, David would take the harp and play it with his hand; and Saul would be refreshed and be well, and the evil spirit would depart from him.

Music, just like preaching, changes people.

Music can move people into sexual and provocative behavior.

Sure it can...

... so adventist forbid dancing because of...??? Cars can kill people... do you also forbid driving?

Imagine you have a wife, can you dance with her :)

could you be more specific?

btw, imagine I liked dancing alone at home, would that be OK? is it just bad if theres someone around?

is dancing only sinful if a sexual move is produced? what if there are different people, like one producing a sexual move and the other something rather neutral...?

Dancing, in of itself, is not sin nor is drinking fermented wine. Now, there are certain styles of dance and music that set on fire the sexual passions and there is a drinking that leads to drunkenness but this does not mean all dancing or all drinking is wrong. Lets not throw the baby out with the bath water.

I think most of your arguments here are faulty at best; but I did dance up and down for joy the other day when the boss said we had the day off work because of the weather! It wasnt some Big Wig Doctrine to do or not do that though - it just happened for a second or two. I think thats something the Bible would support in this day and age when it comes to dancing.
