Recently I have been to a few weddings with other Adventist where there was ball room dancing with a band, another with a "dj" and rock music to dance to.

I went to some 'Birthday parties' where they had formal music with beautiful harps and such but then a "dj" with regular dance music which some Adventist joined in..

We had a 'party' the other week and the children were doing the 'chicken dance'. I know that at Camp Kulaqua and others that they had an occasional Saturday night social with 'line' or organized dancing.

Is this a growing trend among the SDA churches, and members, and what is the official church stand on this?

Anybody got a church manual handy.......

this is my personal opinion.

as long as there in no bumping or grinding, i say dancing is fine. its fun, good exercise, good stress reliever.

Yes, thats what I hear...but then in actual fact what I see is 'shaking their money maker' (and if you dont know what that means I'll have to PM you), 'getting their groove on' or 'burning down the house' with their dance moves, but never any 'bumping or grinding' so its all OK or so they say...

David danced in praise and worship of G-d. It's in the book of 2nd Samuel.

As long as it is not "vulgar" I think dancing is good.

I do not think "vulgar" or "bump and grind" or stuff like that should be done.

Shalom,

Lebesgue

Yes, thats what was in the sermon on Sabbath and so I am looking at what "danced in praise and worship of G-d" actually meant...

Was it a solemn dance planned in advance, a ceremony with a dance, or a spontaneous breakout of dance in praise...

I agree with you. Also, read Psalms 150:4. It is even saying to praise God with dancing, among other things. But obviously if it's sexual or immoral in nature, I don't agree with it.

I totally agree. Scripture DOES say to praise G-d with dancing.

But there is NO place for dancing that is sexual or immoral in nature, that is NOT good.

I don't dance and never have. But if a married couple wants to dance sexually in their own home with no kids around, have at it :)

Otherwise I agree.

For some people dancing can cause temptation to sin. Quick, all dancing is sinful and those who engage in it are lost sinners!

JM

On South Beach in Miami, you dont need to get into the dance clubs to be 'tempted', we all called it by what it was, a 'pick up' point so you could 'hook up'.....(you can PM me if you dont know what that means)

Reddogs,
You asked for what the church manual says. Manual published 1995, under recreation and entertainment, page 152:
'Another form of amusement that has an evil influence is social dancing. "The amusement of dancing, as conducted at the present day, is a school of depravity, a fearful curse to society.
Following references given: Messages To Young People page 339. (See 2 Cor.6:15-18; 1 John 2:15-17; James 4:4; 2 Tim. 2:19-22; Eph.5:8-11; Col.3:5-10).
The evil is if you allow it to be. Remember the bible teaches to do all in the glory of God. You can choose to go to some bar and drink, get wound up in loud music to a frenzie and go home with someone or you can choose to go to a dance and dance with your partner (if you are married or with a family member) outside of the bar scene. We have to remember that God gave all brains to think and reason with.
Also the manual talks about radio, tv's card playing etc as being bad influences and worldly. So I guess by the manual standards you need to get rid of it and that would also include you computers. Again I say it is how you use or abuse it. Any thing can be abused even the bible.

I wonder which dance steps they had back then? What would she think about the dances we have today?

(See 2 Cor.6:15-18; 1 John 2:15-17; James 4:4; 2 Tim. 2:19-22; Eph.5:8-11; Col.3:5-10).

Oh my, the HORROR!--he quoted from the Bible, I can't take it, turn off the lights!

If they don't know that could explain some of the nonsense that gets made up about what is done in the SDA church. The critics don't get out enough!

In the TV show Cheers when Norm walks in they call out his name--you don't want that when you walk into a pick up joint (every once in awhile we'd embarras a friend!)--and if they call out her name, you don't want her.
