Has anyone adopted?
I am 27 and single. It has been on my mind, even when I was younger, just because there are so many kids out there without families. International or close to home? What was the process like? I was daydreaming the other day at work, and a lady came in and I've met her before, and she had adopted 5 children (I think they're all adopted, they range in age right up to 20). Anyway, here I was pondering adoption, and she came with her 6th, a 3 week old baby girl. She adopts Inuit children from up North, she had so much hair and was so tiny, she was in a blanket in the woman's arms. My mum and I work together, I called her over, Mum loved her too... This lady is amazing. We were commenting on her baby and she says "Thanks. We are so blessed".

I wouldn't be in a position now to adopt, but who knows where I will be or what I will be doing in 5-10 years? A couple from my church adopted two girls last summer, about 5-6 years old then.

Hiya...you should check out the Canada Adopts forum. Adopting a provincial ward is practically free, but you won't be allowed to adopt a First Nations or Metis child unless you have that background. If you have a two-bedroom home, even if you rent, and make s decent wage, you can probably adopt even now. It's a longish process, about a year, plus waiting time, but there are also adoption subsidies and credits, and some provinces pay the child's medical, dental, and even university education, depending on the age of the child you adopt. If you want to adopt a newborn healthy infant, you should go through the process now, as it can take many years before a match.

I definitely do not want a baby. I was thinking maybe 3-4 years old or so.
I live with my mum at the moment as neither one of us can afford to live alone.. my stepdad walked out and left a lot of bills. I work 4-5 hour shifts because I had problems at work so I'm taking a break.

I would check into big sisters or something. Right now you don't sound like your in the right place. Also if you adopt an older child, then you might try foster, before you adopt an older child. So you have time to see how the kid is. Yes 3-4 years old is older adoptions with possible attachment problems and other problems.I would look into classes that will help you learn how to parent the wounded child OR A CHILD WITH ATTACHMENT problems. Helping Parents & Teachers Raise Responsible Kids - Love and Logic It's not as easy as people think it might be.
