The site Adoption.com is one of the listed sites that aspiring couples can visit to seek a baby for adoption or a mother can lovingly place her bundle of unwanted joy up for grabs.

Theres just one catch. You have to white, middle or upper class, heterosexual, and married.

Adoption.com partners with ParentProfiles.com to allow parents who are looking for children to adopt to post thier information. In exchange for $100 a month and agreeing to a Terms of Service agreement that forbids any single person or parent to adopt and doesnt allow non-married, gay couples, or gay individuals to adopt. The requirements that you have to be white arent spoken, however out of 307 profiles ( http://www.parentprofiles.com/all/View+All/ALL.html ) there are no ethnic couples of any sort.

I find this more than a little disgraceful

Same thing with eHarmony. They don't allow gays in their database and also tend to match you with someone with the same skin color.

I'm sure that ParentProfiles.com and Adoption.com have good reason for certain rules prohibiting gay and unmarried couples. First, if two people aren't married and living as man and wife, then would it be possible for both to jointly adopt the child or would one person adopt it? I'm sure it's easier for a married couple to adopt a child for the obvious (financial) reasons. Second, with all the social stigma attached with being homosexual, I'm sure ParentProfile.com is seen as more reputable to their clientele for not allowing gay members. It might not be fair, and you might not agree with it, but that's the way it is.

I think its ludicrous to suggest that they only allow white couples. I'm browsing through it now, and I see several interracial couples (and I'm only 1/5 through it). It is also possible that most people seeking to adopt would rather not pay $100/month on top of the thousands of dollars that they have to pay for adoption, so they will be less likely to use this particular service.

There's nothing prohibiting ethnic couples from adopting children, though. My sister, who has a BA in psychology and a minor in Sociology, once told me that it is statistically rare for a married African-American couple to have children. That might give you some idea for why there aren't any minorities on the website. It's not that they can't, they just don't want to.

I just browsed through 50 and all the photos looked pretty white. Not sure what that means, but if I were looking to find someone to adopt my baby I'd probably find another service.

Why must it be bias? These profiles are self-selecting. Unless you can present evidence that ethnic couples have applied and had their profiles rejected because they were not white, you can't accuse the site of being biased.

What you are asking for is considered privalleged information. The company will not disclose information on couples who have submitted a profile other than what the couple themselves tell you (if they were accepted) or what is written on thier couple page. Ive asked

I still don't understand why this automatically means that the site is biased. The site is self-selecting; it isn't representative of every person in the country who wants to adopt, just the ones who want to do so online and pay $99/month (which is an extremely small percentage of those who are seeking to adopt)

See my earlier post. If 307 couples represents the "largest adoption site," then obviously the vast majority of those seeking to adopt do not do so online.

In the case of the homosexuals......at least they are looking out for the child. Good on them.
