people are still getting covid/dying in county where I live

masks have been "optional" for some time- in stores, school district, etc

people no longer social distance, either!
yesterday went to drug store for my monthly visit
woman w/o mask pushed her cart right up to counter left of me so she was right beside me
I ended up moving over to right to wait for my change

thought it was rude she didn't wait & stay behind me

how can I not get covid when NO ONE cares anymore?

Get vaccinated, wash your hands often, don't touch your face, avoid crowds indoors, wear a mask if you want to. After sorting through all the hoopla over the last two years I've about sifted it down to those steps.

As far as avoiding Covid "the Handwriting on the wall" has been clear for a long time that Covid was here to stay in spite of all the promises about masking and lockdowns. In many times people like Fauci ignored and contradicted stuff they had previously written on the Spanish flu for the sake of socio-political winds.

But I can somewhat sympathize. I am a small scale shopper that buys groceries for myself and use reusable shopping bags when shopping at Aldi and Trader Joes, and shopping baskets or small grocery carts when I shop. I often feel like my personal space is blatantly violated when I shop by the people that are shopping for their family or their household buying lots more groceries and using the large regular sized shopping carts. There was a brief respite from that for a week or two once Covid lockdowns hit, but after that it was pretty much business as usual only with wearing masks.

It was never about caring it was about control...and other things.
The lady sounds rude regardless....and maybe the words BACK OFF would have been appropriate..
But.....
The first step is to put your trust in God.
And then if you want to do all the things that HTacianas recomends ...do that.

Some people don't have any concept of personal space, even without COVID. I personally enjoyed the social distancing and would prefer it was a normal practice for everyone all the time. Something that I always do when grocery shopping is use hand sanitizer after touching all the buttons and baskets and carts and things that other people may have touched with their grimy hands and fingers. I've done it for years even before COVID and believe that it's helped a lot until I can get home and really wash my hands.

For the most part, I really didn't worry much about COVID. The media hypes up everything in order to cause fear and panic, and if it wasn't COVID, it would be something else. They feed on fear and panic like emotional vampires. The best thing is to take reasonable precautions and go about your business without caving in to the fear that the media and certain politics are attempting to always inspire. Finding ways to reduce stress boosts your immune system so you are less likely to come down with illnesses.

And of course of primary importance is to put your trust in God and ask him to help you do just that if you are having trouble with it. You don't need to live in fear of COVID or anything else.

Today, you can get a high quality N95 mask, which is a good idea for those that for whatever reason may be more vulnerable to Covid, at least a while longer in many areas. The N95 will be much better than a decent surgical mask even.

Free federally supplied free N95 masks available now at (most? all?) pharmacies I was just reading.

https://www.goodrx.com/conditions/covid-19/free-n95-masks

Check with your local pharmacy, and they are probably available by now, since that rollout has been going on a while.

Steps that actaully help against Covid in order from the most effective at top:
1. Get vaccinated and boosted.
2. Wear a (now free) N95 mask in public places if you have a health vulnerability.
3. Take enough vitamin D to be at a good level, about 4000 iu in the winter for most of us (and if you take calcium supplements, you'd also need 100mg of vitamin K2 to balance the calcium/vitamin D effects).
4. Take advantage of free Covid tests and the new antivirals available if you get Covid.
----
Things that rarely will help, but might on rare occasions:
All the rest: 'wash hands', etc.

5. etc. anything else

@mama2one I feel the same way you do.

I have been fully vaccinated and got the booster. I still feel frustration and even fear over the actions of others.

It drives me crazy when people get close in the stores. I also think it is rude to violate personal space, even without a pandemic!

What I have done is switched to mostly ordering online and either having it delivered or do curbside pickup. I only go in pharmacies when I can't avoid it, and I move away from people as much as possible. I try to only go when it won't be crowded, which can be tricky and sometimes means I have to wait.

I don't think there is anyway to completely avoid people who don't mask up and don't respect social distancing.

Steps that actually help against Covid, in order, starting with the most effective at top:

1. Get vaccinated and boosted.

2. Wear a (now free at pharmacies) N95 mask in public places if you have a health vulnerability or are elderly. (hand washing = very close to zero protection. masking with an N95 = high protection)

3. Take enough vitamin D to be at a good level, about 4000 iu in the winter for most of us (and 2,000 iu in the summer for most of us), and if you take calcium supplements, you'd also need 100mg of vitamin K2 to balance the calcium/vitamin D effects.

4. Take advantage of free Covid tests if you get omicron symptoms: runny nose, headache, fatigue (mild or severe), sneezing, sore throat, and if positive and vulnerable at all, consider the new antivirals that are now available.

See post just above. If you want solid, high quality, recent research behind any of it, ask, and I'll find. I'm summarizing from a lot of information over months.

Another option is to try to use a pharmacy with a drive through or curbside pickup for picking up prescriptions.

I don't have any prescriptions

my drug store has everything so even though stopped going weekly when covid hit, I still go once/month

Sorry to hear it but isolating oneself completely from the rest of the world was always going to be the only way to be sure one avoided Covid.

or try post #8 if you're not such an extreme introvert (but I get it you didn't really mean being like an actual hermit ;-) )

got liquid vitamin D 3 drops & just got some B vitamins
I'm horrible about remembering to take them

so husband just got me a pill box to put B vitamins in
thank goodness I don't take any meds
