• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

My daughter which is six years old and she has ADHD and ODD. She is kindergarten and loves to go to church. She won't listen to me and she just won't clam down. If I get some prayers out there that will help me. I love
her with all my heart she just wants to misbehaves and I trying to help her. She is my miracle child and I blessed to have a sweet girl like her I pray that I get some help to help her. I thank God for her. I just want some advice about how to handle a child like her. Please help and God Bless you! God loves us and we love him.

It would be a privilege to pray for you and your sweet daughter. Since it sounds like you've already been through the diagnosis process, I imagine you're working with a pediatrician and perhaps a counselor. Fortunately, there are a variety of treatment options available for helping little ones control their impulses. Have you viewed the materials at CHADD (Children & Adults with Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder)?

The organization I work for also has a collection of articles to guide parents, plus FAQs that might provide additional support. Google "Focus on the Family" and search the site from there. May God guide you and give you wisdom as you seek the best for your daughter and help her reach her full potential. Blessings!

Simplest solution:
Go see a psychiatrist, Praying is going to do nothing, professionals exist for a reason

This.

When I was diagnosed with ADD I had to see a kids doctor regularly for medication and checking my progress. Also, it is important to find the difference between them being naughty and ADD behaviour. They are not one and the same.

Also, what is ODD? I have not come across this before.

Hello! You are so awesome for all your love and support of your daughter. Hang in there!! I know exactly how you feel. My son is 10 - ADHD/ODD (which is oppositional defiant disorder). We've gone through Heck in the past 6 years since he was first diagnosed at age 4 (ODD diagnosis came later).
Things I've learned: Get to know your child and love them. Have a plan of action. These kids' minds are different, and thus require a different type of parenting or teaching; they learn differently. Have a good support group for MOM as well as child. If medication might help, don't be afraid to give it a try. Of course discuss treatment options with your doctor. Yours may or MAY NOT require the use of stimulants or other meds. Don't be afraid to explore your options to find what is best for your child.
Dr. Russell Barkley - look him up on Youtube; has some AWESOME videos that explain the reasons for some of the behavior you are seeing as well as some things to try to improve things and help you both. He has also written several books on ADHD and ODD that you can probably find at your local library.
Good luck and I wish you many blessings!
