• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

I'm certain I'm not unique. Weird, certainly, but not alone. :D

I find that in addition to being an alcoholic, I do other things compulsively. I can walk past a box of donuts at work all day and not be bothered by them, but if I eat ONE I want MORE (MOAR!).

I do this with the lottery as well.

Anyone else find themselves to be compulsive in nature? Most of the alcoholics I meet around the meetings seem to not wish to discuss it.

Maybe I am the only one? ;)

I have the brain of an addict. Food, sex, shopping, as well as drugs and alcohol, are my substances. I had to have gastric bypass surgery because my food addiction put me over 300 pounds at one point. When I had my surgery, and gave up the food, I relapsed with the alcohol and had the worst relapse of my life. I shopped to the point of needing to declare bankruptcy. I won't talk about what the sex addiction did.

Most people I know have multiple addictions. The beauty of the 12 Steps is that once we have the Spiritual awakening, we are better able to "Practice these principles in ALL of our affairs."
