Where does it stand if you are an alcoholic but the bible says don't get drunk. What if you are so ill you can't stop but you do try are you sinning, do you need to repent every day or are you ill

The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.
If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.
If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Just because you have Borderline Personality Disorder does not mean you are not responsible for your behavior. I hope you are in psychotherapy. My therapist has held me responsible for everything I have ever done, and I also have Bipolar Disorder. Sin is sin, and having BPD doesn't free us from our responsibility to obey God.
I have been in Alcoholics Anonymous for 22 years. My therapist never allowed me to get away with my relapses, or other sins. At the end of my last relapse, I ended up in rehab and the psych hospital. I totally surrendered to the Lord and told him whatever His will is, I will obey. I have not had a drink since January 14, 2010. I also have completed all 12 of AA's Steps.
I suggest you get to an AA meeting and start working all of AA's 12 Steps. Do a 4th and 5th Step and take inventory of all your sins, and confess and repent of them.
BPD is not a regular mental illness. It is a personality disorder, which means our thinking, feeling and behavior are deeply pervasive and maladaptive patterns which we have learned. Since we learned them, usually in childhood as coping strategies for trauma or abuse. Since we learned them, we can unlearn them. For me, it has taken painful therapy, and constant AA meetings and psychotherapy with a therapist who practices Cognitive Behavioral Therapist.
