Ryan was the last one in the class. All the other missionaries-in-training had graduated up to the next level, but Ryan, still without an acceptable mission statement, was trying once again to please Mr. Fresher.
"And therein lies your problem, Ryan. You are trying to please me, you are trying to please yourself. But you are not trying to please God," Silas said.
Ryan sighed and put pencil to paper once again. He wrote a single sentence:
"My mission: To point people to Christ."
He handed the card to Mr Fresher. The older man smiled. "Yes. You can go to the next class tomorrow Ryan," was all he said.
Ryan left the classroom, but stopped in the hall to read the card again. To point people to Christ. The statement seemed so general, but it was all that need be said. There was only one mission for any Christian. To point people to Christ. Ryan smiled. A warm glow radiated out from him. All the frustration of the last year, from the failed mission to Darkhell to the pain of not being selected by the mission board to the search for his mission statement, all drained away, like down a big sinkhole. Ryan knew that no matter where life took him, whether to Darkhell or home, he could accomplish this mission statement. It was more than a personal mission. It was the essence of the Great Commission. Life was going somewhere--
The End?
