  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

'Despite overwhelming evidence that [Global Warming] occurred, the [Global Warming] Denier skeptically denies that one knows or justifiably believes that it did, and attempts via numerous publications and presentations to spread this skepticism to others.' (borrowing from article 'Healthy Skepticism and Practical Wisdom' by Pierre Le Morvan - pg. 93 : III.a. Some Examples of Unhealthily Excessive Skepticism)
There is no legitimate debate in the scientific community that global warming has occurred. Even the UAH global temperature data shows warming along side of all the other organizations that track GATs internationally. I mentioned UAH specifically becaue it was under the direction of two well known skeptics, Roy Spencer, and John Christy.

I don't see why a climate change sceptic should be unhappier than anyone else. If anything, they should be happier shouldn't they?

I'm still not seeing any justification for a connection between scepticism and an unhappy and unhealthy life.

I notice you like slipping in your barbs after your reply has already arrived in my mail box and been replied to.

Doing that I think is called 'delusional'.

Doing that I think is called being 'obnoxious'

With respect to skepticism toward GW/CC, skepticism is almost entirely from non professionals. In the U.S. most of it is politically motivated, much the same as was with the tobacco industry.

Feeding the population lies is what it's all about, it's like this........even if they don't believe everything you say you will sow enough doubt to slow down the discussion and when half the population are not very well educated you can stop it completely.
The billionaires in the US have got the population of American exactly where they want them, they have spent their money well.

I can hear old BB King blasting out 'Same Old Story' -- it's less about religion, ignorance and greed and more about the old fashioned struggle for power.

It reminds me of the medieval puppet show trope where the puppets distract the audience while the thief robs their purses. The trick is to get people riled up about stuff that really doesn't matter. This works to great effect with gun rights, fake stories of welfare abuse, and climate change. They vote against those evil liberals, all the while ignoring the fact that they are voting for representatives that have no interest in protecting the middle class.

Politicians have two goals.

1. Get elected.
2. Get reelected.

If it weren't for lawyers, politicians would be the lowest scum on the earth. Hey wait! Most politicians are lawyers too. Double scum.

For what its worth, last year (2014) was an all time record GAT year. So far this year is on track for an even warmer record year.

Just released, NASA GISS global temperature data for the month of May 2015 was 0.71°C (1.3°F) above the long-term average. It is also the hottest first five months of any year ever recorded.

How can Republicans know that Global Warming is bad if they don't even know what it is? (a snowball in the senate) they know as much about GW as they do about evolution,
it must be great to have really smart people representing you in the senate, why do people laugh at Americans?

In general generalizing is generally bad form.
When we are talking generally all we can do in generalise.

When we discuss a topic we assume the person we are talking to has enough sense to realise that there are exceptions to every rule,
if they don't then there is something wrong with them and we are both wasting our time.

Your expectations are extremely high.

Do we have any idea whether the earth suffered global warming problems prior to the emergence of modern humans? IOW. Is it at all possible that Global Warming might have occurred naturally without us and that all we are really doing is making matters worse because of our blatant neglect of 'Mother Earth'?

The current GW is the only one caused by humans. All the rest are due to natural forcings. As for modern humans, they evolved during the Pleistocene ice age. Burrrrrrrrrrr!
