I'd say that if you've got quality time with God in the garden 24/7, religion is just a poor substitute for the real thing.

Of course, after the fall is a different story... I suppose they were the original theists, but really, how can you say you "believe in" God when you actually know for a fact He exists, and He's real, and you've spoken with Him face to face one on one?

Dear David Brider,
I am not saying you haven't met with God, but how did you know when it is God speaking? what is your test against false spirits as Satan masquerades as an angel of light.

On the few occasions I've heard God speaking (and I mean very few) I've weighed what I believe He's said against what I understand to be the truth about what God's like from Scripture.

Although I'm aware that satan has tried to decieve me on occasions, intriguingly I've never known him to pull the "speaking to me in person and trying to convince me it's God" trick. If he tried, I'm not sure I'd fall for it. I hope I wouldn't, although never say never.

Hope you don't mind me asking, but your question seems rather unusual. Any particular reason for it?

David.

Dear David Brider,
Thanks for the response.

This is the same for me though I already understand the scripture is the truth; otherwise I have nothing of God's truth to test against.

Hope you don't mind me asking, but your question seems rather unusual. Any particular reason for it?
yes because people often do things contrary to God's word which they claim they heard from God.

The word "religion" only brings me to the thought of rules and tradition..

I think their rule was not to rebel against what God said not to do..He told them not to eat of the tree of knowledge of good and evil..which of course and we know how it goes from there.

Was it a sin to be naked? They wanted to be clothed afterward...was it only a sin after they knew it was a sin...if it is a sin..?

I guess I am not much of a help, but to say religion is not a substitue for relationship.

David.

If you carefully read Genesis 1-3, you will see that the names "Adam and Eve" necessarily place the time after the fall, because prior to the fall the man and woman were both called Adam.
