How many play AD&D or other non-computer game?

I would still play if I knew someone that played.

I have tried online RPG's. Ultima online, Shadowbane, and Everquest.
But they upgrade to much and I can't afford to keep a computer
up to date.

new add-ons every 6 months(new $40 box sets)
upgrades every other month.( no new cost but one step further to becoming
to modern for my computer.)

not enough memory(526megs), not modern enough sound card to use directx8, dial up connection($50 for high speed) plus getting it installed.

Shadowbane was high end character heavy. 20th level was an average character.

Ultima was ok, but had alot of problems.
I do miss my Battletoads. though.(FROGS RULE)
I would be perfectly happy to find a group and just hack and blast in imagination then try to keep up with the rich gamers online.

We have a whole subforum here in the games forum designed for non computer/console 'pen and paper' or 'tabletop' games. You might find someone in your area who plays! Hobby shops that cater to gamers often have boards where you can post (or find others seeking players).

www.accessdenied.net is a good place to locate gamers in your area too.

Yep, another D&Der here! Man, don't waste your time with the online stuff. If you want something to approximate the experience (nothing will replace it), just pick up a used copy of Neverwinter Nights for PC; you could probably pick up the game + both published expansions for about $20 on Ebay. There are options for online/multiplayer adventures, designing your own adventures with the DM toolkit, and continuing the single player game with premium expansions and user-built modules. Oh, did I mention that it's D&D-based? 3rd edition, yeah, but you can't have everything! ;) You can get user-built versions of classic D&D/AD&D modules, patches, updates and lots more at http://nwvault.ign.com/index2.shtml.
Like Kelly said, come hang out with us in the Pen & Paper forums-- at least you'll be among kindred spirits!

iS THIS pvp OR HAVE pvp AREAS?
And what are the average levels?
(I didn't like Shadowbane because I couldn't play the real game until I reached 10th level then couldn't do anything but power level when I got to the real game. Let alone being caught alone by any "normal" Characters.)

I think there are some pvp areas in the basic NWN game that can be enabled; I don't know about the multiplayer because I've never done it. Perhaps someone else here or at the Neverwinter Vault can answer that question for you...
Regarding levels: The basic game is designed to take a character from first level through 18th or so, and the two published expansions will take you up to around level 30 or higher (I haven't finished them, so I'm not quite sure on this.) As far as the user-designed modules go, they're pretty similar to the old PnP modules in the sense that each one will give a suggested number of PCs and PC level range.
Hope this helps! :)

Billnew, pick up the Baldur's Gate series. You can probably get all four games for about $30 now. They are by far the best D&D games I have ever played. I've replayed through them countless times.

Agreed, the Baldur's Gate series is terrific!

Oh, I thought it was an on-line game.
You can play at home and on the internet?

Yep, you can do both! What's cooler is that I don't think there are any subscription fees to play online. Keep in mind though that this isn't one of those open-ended MMORPGs; again it's module-based, so multiplayer games will be much more structured. Depending on the DM and the module, there may be requirements for PC levels, limits to the number of magic weapons/items per PC, etc.

Yeah the NWN game and it's expansions are all chiefly PC single player adventure games that also happen to have a decent multiplayer option, where people can adventure together and you can even "DM" to a degree.

Yeh, I've read some horror stories about the DMing on the online games-- how if the DM gets bored terrible things can happen to the players (a dozen umber hulks spawn to challenge a low-level party, stuff like that). It's funny to think about, but I can see how it could be very frustrating for the players...

I play SWRPG. yeah, i know I'm a dork. And to top it of it's the old D6 version. Death to D20!!!!!!!!!!

WEG SWRPG was a blast. I'm a d6 gamer, d20 gamer, d10 gamer (storyteller). Heck, I'd roll a d12 if somebody wrote rules for it. For every genre, there is a system.
