  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

This weekend my great-uncle passed his darkroom equipment on to me. Included in the collection is a Durst enlarger. It's a dichroic style enlarger. I know the differences in how it's set up from a condenser enlarger, but can anyone help me with what the benefits/disadvantages of using it are? Thanks!!!

Hi my name is toch I am a professional photographer here in Manila. I used to own one of those dichroic durst enlargers and the one of the benefits is that your image are somehow diffused from the way the lightnig source is. This means you will have an image that is not too stark or contrasty than a condenser enlarger. Furthermore if you are going to use variable contrast papers you may simulate the filters by using the filters in the colorhead to simulate paper 1,2,3,4,5 and its increment thereof. Hope I was helpful in anyway. You should be able to have betteer photographs using the dichroic. It would virtually elilminate any scratches and smudges on the negatives as well.
