  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I am working on putting together a short little story for my daughter, and I thought that maybe some of you might want to help me. :) I know how sweet so many of you are, and I bet that this would be a real breeze with so many parents peeking into offer a line or two.

What I am hoping to do is to create as short story, focused around a main character who is an Acorn, since it was the first "A" word that really caught my attention. I'm going to try and piece something together for a rough little booklet that she and I can do together. I'll sketch some rough drawings for her to color, and it will go along with her mini science lesson about acorns. :) Feel free to jump in whenever and wherever you want!

There once was a little acorn, named Abbey, nestled snuggly in a large oak tree. From high up in the sky, Abbey could see many of the beautiful things that God had created, and it made her happy to see the world from her sturdy branch.......

But one day, the towering oak that had supported Abbey for so long released her from it's brances. Down down down Abbey fell with a thud. So far from where she had always been, Abbey wondered why this had happened. What purpose did this have in God's plan for her?

Soon, the winds began to blow and rain began to fall. The ground became soft and Abbey began to sink down, down, down into the muddy ground. She was afraid, but she knew that God's plan was perfect. She knew that He would always take care of her.

And then the big mean squirrrel came and ate Abbey for lunch.

LOL! Forgive my sense of humor!

How about the happy gray squirrel saw Abbey and brought her to a new place and buried her just below the leaves... then the snow began to fall, the spring rains came, something like that. So even when bad things happen, children can see that everything happens for a reason, and Abbey still gets to grow into a beautiful tree.

Sorry to mess up the threads...there is such a nice flow going on in here...I don't have anything to add to the story...but wanted to say its an awesome and sweet idea...I came in here thinking it was maybe a thread on the book "the acorn people"...ok I'll give it a try....
Then abby grew into a strong and beautiful oak(don't acorn turn into oak trees?) Her limbs were so beautiful full of bright green leaves and limbs were so stong...that one day a set of blue jays .. momma and daddy birds.. came by and saw her. They knew right away it was the perfect place to build their home and start their family.

Each day, Abbey grew stronger on the good things from heaven. God poured out sunshine and rain over the fullness of her leaves. Blue Jays chirped happily from the comfort of her branches. It tickled Abbey when the baby birds began to step out from their nest, their little toes making her boughs shake with laughter.

Slowly, Abbey began to notice that there was something different about herself. She wiggled one small branch in the wind, and noticed a small acorn growing amongst her leaves!
