Ever since I can remember I have taken Rolaids to try to control my bad acid reflux problem. In October of 2003 I had to have surgery on my throat. The doctor tried many medicines to keep it from damaging my throat anymore. I have been on Nexium for a while now. It is so expensive. I have also tried a tablespoon of white vinegar everyday until the pain got really bad. Is there any other way to get rid of acid reflux problem without drugs?

Wow, Crazy I really feel for you. I had acid reflux for a while but discovered it was associated with stress and overeating. Have you considered going to an herbalist? My doctor wanted to just prescribe medications instead of getting to the source of the problem, I figured it out by myself, going without food and then overeating, plus major stress.
Obviously your acid reflux is worse then mine and you are very young so I hope you continue to look for solutions so this can stop being a problem in your life. I will say a prayer for you.

there's a chemical in rolaids and all over the counter antacids that are not healthy.
I also feel for you.I think acid reflux is diet caused alot of the time and Zantac before you eat could be tried,if you haven't already done that.Sounds like you need to see a nutritionalist and go with healing foods?

Acid reflux may be due to the stomach producing excess stomach acid but it is commonly caused by an insufficiency of hydrochloric acid in the stomach.

One way to check to see if you have acid excess or deficiency is to take a spoonful of vinegar when you start experiencing the discomfort. If the discomfort goes away after taking the vinegar you know that your problem is due to insufficient hydrochloric acid.

Taking digestive food enzymes and adding some raw fruits and vegetables to your diet help.

For excess acid calcium will neutralize the excess acid, but really only acts as a bandaid. The key is to get to the source of the issue.

As well as taking food enzymes you can drink aloe vera juice (it should be 100% pure), take blessed thistle or catnip and fennel.

Some other tips to help are:

Don't eat late at night
Don't lie down after eating
Eat smaller portions
Avoid fried foods

Hiatal hernia may also be a consideration for someone who is suffering from acid reflux. This is where the stomach pushes upward through the opening in the diaphragm into the esophagus. In this instance chiropractic or message therapy can help.

You really have many natural options for treating acid reflux. If you would like more information please feel free to send me a private message. I'll be glad to work with you to find what will be most beneficial for you.
