  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

You can capitalize all the words you want; you've already admitted that there's no reason other than pure, unsupported faith to accept your POV.
Good --- glad to see you acknowledge that it is faith --- not pride.

Mission accomplished.

So if a Christian came in here and said that evolution is compatible with the Bible and a belief in Jesus Christ would you tell him he's wrong?
No --- not in a public forum.
Apparently the differences between Dad's and AV's cosmology/creation doesn't matter when it comes to faith in Jesus.
That is correct --- like I said, we can vehemently disagree on certain issues, but when it comes to Jesus Christ and His resurrection, all disagreements cease.
Would a theist evolutionist get the same respect?
Yes.
Would AV debate with a theistic evolutionist?
No --- not in a public forum.

Why should I research it, when you guys don't even research it? (Except, of course, you claim you did.)
Seems to me that would give you a leg up, wouldn't it? It behooves you to research the topic at hand.
So now we didn't research it because you said so. Research is but a few mouse clicks and keystrokes away; do you really think we're too lazy to bother with that?

Are you telling me that just before they voted, they sat down to make sure they all agreed on its mineral compound, it's orbit, its rotation, etc.?
Not just before they voted, no. They'd agreed for quite some time. Do I really need to show you links?
Good for peer review. Are they looking for a YOOHOO! from outer space because something passed peer review?
Um... no.

What I have noticed, is the seemingly 100% acknowledgment from the people on this site of something that was voted on by a small minority, even though the minority itself wasn't 100% in agreement.

Do you not see the point I'm making here, Gaara?
I see your point, and it's really rather moot. Everyone acknowledges the change in Pluto's classification, even those who voted against it. It doesn't matter that it was voted on by a small minority. That minority had the power to vote on it, and it did so. You may as well question the power of Congress to pass bills because they are a "small minority" that "didn't agree 100%."
Do you see now why your Pluto argument is useless?

You should research the situation, because if you don't you have no idea whats going on.

All of this had already been known for a long time. Seriously AV, I haven't the faintest clue why this is so difficult for you.

What?

Why does it matter? The scientific community set up a committee to decide on these things-- the definition of anything changes no facts about the thing, no physical appearancesor elements of the thing: the thing whose definition has been altered is still the exact same thing as it was before physically. Why on earth do you not get this?

Do you not see the point I'm making here, Gaara?

Why don't you just give us your nonexistent "point" already? I'm sure it'll be inane and fallacious, but I've come to expect that from you.

Changing the word FAITH to PRIDE --- then stating that "it is beyond" me is indeed a move that changes the reality of the situation.

It's a wonder you guys don't go bald scratching your heads so much.

Which verse is the right one?
The first one is the AV1611 version. The second is more accurate to reality. What else but pride can cause a person to steadfastly assume they are correct, no matter the evidence?

Getting one person to mistake your pride for genuine faith isn't much of a mission.

Perhaps you should set the bar a bit higher?

So then, all your harsh words on the stupidity of presuming one can know about the different state are all reserved for scientists, alone. Got it.

That, right there, is the crux of where Dad's argument falls flat on its face.

What is sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander, unless you're Dad at which point everyone who disagrees with him is wrong and he is right, and on those occasions where his own point disagrees with him, it's wrong and he's still right!

(This is why I like to refer to his use of this extreme of "Empiricism" as an epistemological atomic bomb. He can't use it without it destroying his own position as well. And yet he pushes the button over and over and over again.)

I can't help but read this and think 'A unified front for the war on intellectualism, perhaps?' but then I think about a 2-man war which leads to MASH and how sad I am that show's gone. :-(

Now I'm sad, and it's your fault.

What's your hang-up, anyway?

We don't tell you there are 25 elements in the Periodic Table one year, then change it to 35 the next, then discover 15 the next, etc.

We don't teach phlogiston one year, then find out it's junk science the next.

We don't call Pluto a planet one year, then a Dwarf Planet the next.

In short --- we don't change with the weather.

We may not agree with each other, but do you scientists?

We claim scientists are gifts from God - do you claim Christians are gifts to science?
Unlike Christianity, where even the thought of an "old" truth or a "new" truth is completely out of the question...no, wait.

"And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."

How sad that you will never be free, AV1611VET, but always a slave to your irrational, impossible dogma. I am going to put you on ignore now. That is a unique honor.

In any event --- putting a freak in a freak show on IGNORE --- how sad.

With the freedom to define words in any way I choose, I could define 'truth' to mean 'cheesecake' in which case, it's a shame there's not more truth in science, because I like truth and want to have it all the time.
But you won't though, will you? And that adds weight to the validity of this discussion. We Christians, by contrast, will --- and not only do that --- but point to the very source of truth ---
John 14:6 said:
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
So while science says, "There's no such thing as Truth," we Christians disagree.

Sure I am: 1 + 1 + 1 = 1 --- and I can back that up in Writing --- can you?

Not sure why I would trust my sense in trying to empirically verify your writings. My Writings say that 2+2=2 in red letters, and you can verify that by using your eyes to read out the only supernaturally perceptible colorless green print on the tabletop in front* of you.

*In case you can't find it, turn around. If you still can't find it ... Keep looking.
