  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I was watching TV just now, and for the first time in my life I saw a public service announcement that was telling parents to tell their kids to wait until they're married to have sex. My eyes went wide, and it was definitely a "what the hell?" moment.

So what are your thoughts on this? Do you think this is too far, just right, or some other completely different thing? Or are you just indifferent? :p

I just think it's unrealistic. I mean, why do people assume that all teens are going to get married at some point?

I like the "Being a Virgin is Cool" Ads better, personally. At least they are trying to appeal directly to teens, and show actual teen (whether or not they are virgins, I don't want to check *wink*).

I don't think that people should remain virginal until marriage (because I don't think that people should divorce, and sexual incompatibility can cause divorce) but that is really up to the person in question to decide for themself.

I guess that I am indifferent on these new ads, though I haven't seen any myself.

If it was funded with government money than I am against it (and would write to my senators, and if they didn't respond I wouldn't vote for them again). If it was funded with private money, than I will chuckle at the money they wasted.

The website they had was a government website, so I'm assuming it was funded by the government.

Great idea. Girls should remain chaste.

is this a joke?
that makes no sense what so ever.

what about men? how can men do the same without getting a woman involved(unless we are speaking of a homosexual male, which i'm sure we are not)

and why do so many of these sexual issues seem to pop up along with gender bias?

Not joke. Men not stuck with responsibility. Can leave any time. Women stuck with consequences. It woman's responsibility to prevent possible pregnancy. Serious topic.

Obviously, premarital chastity is the ideal standard.

Sometimes if parents don't have high expectations for their children, their children will never set high goals for themselves.

I don't think that parents need to provide children with information about condoms, contraception, or STD's, certainly not if it violates their own sense of morality, but I don't think that they should actively try to keep them in ignorance, either.

Is it really a gender bias?
It is true that both men and women engaging in intercourse are responsible for avoiding unplanned pregnancy, but the overwhelming consequences fall on the women.
Yes, both genders fair better in preventing pregnancy and STD's with proper education. The problem is that accidents happen. Most teenagers are ill prepared financially and emotionally to raise children.

The only bias is of a biologic nature. Men don't carry the unborn. Nor do they deal with the immediate consequences. Women do.

it is gender bias, and that would be ducking out on his own child if he just left. A baby is just as much the males as it is the females.

and only total losers would duck out..

I disagree. The man has responsibilities to the woman while she is pregnant, including help in paying medical expenses. Nine months later he is equally responsible for the child as the woman.
While the woman has consequences sooner, the consequences for a male are hardly minor.
