  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Hi there!

There is a young girl in our church who is pregnant and my husband and I were going to put a care parcel together for her and her husband once the baby is born.
What I would like to know is what should we put in it????
I was thinking of wash cloths, bibs, a soft toy, a blanket, some baby lotions, and a devotion for parents. I want to get things that will be useful for a while - not just for a month or so.
But I was wondering if there was anything that you were SO THANKFUL for when your child/children was born that we could add to our list of things to get them.

Thanks in advance.

There's not a whole lot that I think are "must haves" but if your looking for small stuff to put in a gift package then I recommend Lansinoh lanolin cream. It was absolutely wonderful to have, it really helped my sore nipples while I was establishing breastfeeding.

I enjoyed the sleep gowns that didn't have footsies attached - they kind of just gathered at the bottom. Those make my night time changing a breeze.
I received a basket with bottles, pacifier, rattle, mittens (some now come with little rattles attached), socks...used all of them

A sling, a baby swing, diapers and The Baby Book by Dr. Sears...I don't think I could have gotten through figuring out how to be a mom without that book.

Find out if she is breastfeeding or formula feeding-- if she ends up using formula- a case of whatever formula the baby is using would probably be a Godsend!

You might also want to consider putting in a little something special for her...like a nice bath set- or pretty PJ's or something along those lines. I have a few friends who have always sent me a little something like that after each baby--and in many ways I appreciated that more than getting baby stuff. If was like a reminder that I was still a person, and that my identity wasn't just as an extension of the baby. And those kinds of things- just sort of made me feel very nurtured (gift giving is my primary love language - can you tell ? :) )

God Bless you for doing this for this girl! What an awesome witness to God's tender love and care!

personally I hated getting lotions, as my daughter and I are both allergic to anything with Lanolin in it, even caused an emergency room visit when she was a month old due to a full body rash.

But things I liked, and would like are a boppi, it is a great pillow for not only breastfeeding moms but bottle feeding moms as well, also great for tummy time.
Diapers, love getting diapers from N-5 sizes.
Those cute towels with the hoods on them.
Anything hand made, but mostly blankets.

Oh I forgot to add Gerber Onsies, they don't button between the legs but just below the belly button, they were awesome when my daughter was smaller and I plan to get heaps of them before this one is born.

Also a bottle of either All Baby or Dreft detergent.

Well, if it is autumn or winter, I would definitely consider some little hats that go over his/her ears. I didn't even think about needing them til I got some @ my shower and then it was like, oh...duh! Of course, winter is really mild here (it has been 80 for the last week :sigh:) but Jan and Feb get pretty rough.
