  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

People do lots of things to kill themselves.
A friend of mine held his breath till he died.

I am sorry to hear your friend died, but I do not believe that was the cause of his death. You will lose conciousness before death due to lack of oxygen, which means you will no longer be able to forcibly hold your breathe.

It may well be that the cause of death was asphyxiation, but I do not think that was his choice, unless other circumstances were engineered such as a high nitrogen content in the room, which stops the he panic of imminent asphyxiation.

Was this the official coroners verdict into his death?

You mean, like homeopathy? Astrology? Acupuncture? Truthers? New Age mystics? Muslims? Hindus? Moon landing hoaxers?

Looks to me like you have poor company. You are losing your case.

There is a fact about the human condition in that we crave to be in relationship with the Father.
It's been said to be an open hole in our "Heart" that is God shaped and needs to be filled. KD Lang covered this fact well:
Constant Craving Lyrics - K.d. Lang

Many millions of people have come up with substitute ideas and procedures to attempt to fill the hole.

Just having someone to talk to will often ease some of the pain.
And if they'll perform some procedure or offer a pill it helps to
add to the illusion.

I'm in the company of sinners, not saints. Just where a Christian belongs.

Either god does not exist, or he tells each denomination something different.

I've been to church services for 20 or so denominations. I had a family member who used a wheelchair and we would go to different churches each week to see how accessible the churches were. Plus it was fun to meet new people and see the "differences".

The MAJOR differences was the character of the people who attended. Differences in denominations was a minor factor compared to the
diversity of the members.

Even if you were to pass out from lack of breathing. As soon as you passed out the automatic breathing would take over. This use to be a trick that little kids played on their parents. If I do not get my way then I am going to hold my breath until I pass out. From a medical viewpoint, there really was no harm. Let 'em be if they want to hold their breath. When they see it does not work to get what they want, then they will try something else.

I was down in Florida one year for 6 weeks and I attended a lot of different churches. I remember one that just about every person shook my hand and welcomed me and told me how much they hope I came back and become a part of their group. I had other churches where just about no one talked to me at all. Then of course everything in between. That is the way it is with churches. There are extremes and everything in between.

He was underwater at the time. Evidently the Autonomic nervous system doesn't take everything into account as an adult.

Correct, some countries drive on the left.

And I can tell you, it's hard to adjust. Even harder is returning home and no longer being 100% confident that drivers will stay on the right. It's all faith.

Heard that from my dad all my life. It does not matter what religious people say about the Bible. The question is what does Science have to say about the Bible. Because this is a science forum, so that is what we talk about. We talk about what we can provide scientific evidence for. If there is no scientific evidence then that is faith based and science has nothing to say about that one way or the other. They would be wasting their time because they can not prove it or disprove it. Because to approve or disapprove is not science.

Missed the point here, didn't you.

I would be careful about that "Science has nothing to say about that". Unlike religion, science progresses. Some day Science may well address it. And history is any indication of the outcome, the bible will once again be shown to be shoddy history and made up stories.

If that was the only difference you saw, you were not paying attention. i have also been to services for many different denominations. I have also looked much deeper than mere services. There are huge difference. Just because you don't want to see them or acknowledge them does not mean they don't exist.
