  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

About trees.

Trees sequester lots of carbon, even when they are cut down and used to build things. Trees are about 40 percent carbon by weight. A large growing tree can sequester hundreds of pounds of carbon each year, above and below ground and in the surrounding soil. Trees also provide food and shelter for animals, birds, insects, and other life-forms which themselves are mostly carbon.

They are also great places to hang a treestand and hunt deer from.

How about grass? Would grass do better?

A lot less carbon is sequestered in grass too.

Lot's of carbon is sequestered in thick, healthy turf, especially if earthworms are present.

I'm assuming that you are referring to the western wildfires which are releasing enormous amounts of co2 into the atmosphere (your misspelling of 'forest' had me thinking there was another meaning).

I don't smoke, and I'm careful where I park my car when hunting as the hot catalytic converter can start dry grass on fire.

A lot less... am I getting confused?
Grass stores less carbon in cellulose then trees beverages it's smaller.

But, would the much (?) higher abundance of grass (weeds) to make up the differences?

Hmm... I guess you are right. The amount of grass on earth may indeed be much less than trees.

I don't know why, but that autocorrect is hilarious to me. I hate smaller beverages!

Think about how big grass gets before it rots back into the ground and releases its carbon. Whereas a tree can hold it in for decades or even centuries.

Oops. Now I'm thinking of those horrible lemon grass smoothies.
