The first 3 books of the Bible are grouped together not because they were written earliest ... but because they cover much the same material but from three different points of view much the way that different reporters might do.
They "harmonize" and the folloing link is one of many available:

For the most part they cover the pre-cross period of time in which the offer of a Kingdom was being made to Israel. Including the birth earthly ministry of our Lord and His death and resurrection.
The term is "the gospels" as truly they each are a standalone "gospel".
Each a "good news" one emphasizing the "Messiah", one the "King", and Luke about the "suffering Servant".
Luke was a details man. He wrote some of the events with a more detailed perspective.
The offer of the Kingdom was rejected violently which we all know ...
The "gospel" of John starts where the others left off ...
It is Believed the Book of John was written MUCH later perhaps one of the last books put to paper. Just before John wrote the Book of Revelation.
Luke was Paul's traveling companion. Actually Paul had several traveling companions ... Tychicus and Tertius were literal secretaries to Paul. Paul was going blind and didn't often write but dictated to others to put on paper.
My screen name is the Latin variant of the name Tychicus.
Some believe that Luke wrote the Book of Hebrews as well ... but I doubt it.
Some believe that Luke was a gentile. That is absurd.

He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not. He came unto his own, and his own received him not.
