I've been struck with the thought that at least some of the Christian hostility towards abortion stems from a fear of preventing the second coming of Christ. Feel free to argue if you think I'm wrong, or if you have any thoughts on this theory.

CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Given that the Second Coming is a Glory in the Clouds sort of thing not a Humble Birth it would seem you are off track here. Christians oppose abortion because it is the taking of an innocent human life for selfish personal ends.

regardless, however, i dont think there is a Christian out there who thinks the Second Coming will be "aborted." if He says its gonna happen, its gonna happen.

I've never heard of that theory before. I believe Arizona summed it up pretty nicely so all I can contribute is that I don't feel that way.

Personally, I am not an extremist exploding clinics. There are very few who are. I just disagree with the act of abortion, as mike stated, because it is a very selfish act performed to be rid of the result, typically, of yet another very selfish act.
After much thought, I would lean more toward pro-choice. Without going into all that reasoning, I would still have to conclude that abortion in and of itself, however, is far more hostile than the majority of Christians who oppose it.
