CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I plant a field barley as a backup plan, in case electronic communications go down for some reason. Last year, I harvested very little barley from my bountiful field. I decided to let it seed itself. Nothing came up, but wild native plants. I didn't think that it was such a big deal until yesterday.
I don't follow the Hillel calendar. I follow Torah, the best that I am able.
When do I observe the Sabbath?
On the seventh day when I see the sign of the sun going down.
However I start counting the days of the year, from the new moon sighting in Israel, (the day that it can be sighted can vary significantly, globally) after the barley is abib in Israel.
Then I realized that I am practicing YHWH's appointed times by a double standard. Did Moses look to the the new moon, and the abib barley in Israel; when he was in Egypt? How do those in the Southern Hemisphere bring forth their first fruits of spring, when it is fall. How did those of the Northern Tribes, who kept their faith, as they were carried off, observe the abib barley in Judea?
I now believe that YHWH gives us all of his signs, from where we are.
I suppose that this will be the last year that I look for barley sightings in Israel; as I'm not sure where to site the barley from where I am.
Next year I will be very careful to nurture my barley crop; and I will start looking into who else my be growing barley in my region.
