I'll start! All terms, places, people, objects, etc. can be included. Feel free to define the word if you wish, but its not necessary. Other Wesleyans are also included in this, not just Methodists...so jump in. :) This is intended to be a fellowship game thread only. If you wish to discuss something please start another thread. Blessings will given at random for participation.

Aldersgate - conversion experience of John Wesley that took place May 24, 1738 at a Moravian Meetinghouse on Aldersgate Street, London. This is when during a reading of Luther's preface to the Epistle to the Romans he felt his heart "strangely warmed" and that he did "trust in Christ, Christ alone, for salvation..."(Journal, 1738).

Bristol -- as in Bristol, England, it was here that in 1739 a fellow member of the Holy Club turned Methodist preacher, George Whitefield, invited John Wesley to start open air preaching (at Hanham Mount). And also here that Wesley built the very first Methodist building, which he called 'our new room': a purpose-built space for preaching, teaching, as a medical dispensary and as lodging for his rapidly expanding band of travelling preachers. The New Room is the oldest Methodist chapel in the world. Above the chapel are the rooms in which Wesley and other preachers stayed.

Charles Wesley - brother of John Wesley, and one of the co-founders of the Methodist movement in the Church of England. Charles was a priest, and wrote thousands of hymns, many still popular across Christianity today including "Hark the Herald Angels Sing", "Christ the Lord is Risen Today", and "Love Divine All Loves Excelling."

General Conference (UMC) - body which meets every four years. It is made up of over 1,000 delegates (1/2 clergy, 1/2 laity) and sets policy. Delegates are elected by Annual Conferences. The GC is the only official voice for the church. Actions taken by the General Conference result in revisions being made to the Book of Discipline, with statements being added or revised in the Book of Resolutions. The next General Conference of the United Methodist Church will take place in 2016.

Holiness -- The concept that Christians are called to be holy as God is holy is based on 1 Peter 1:16, and is taught as something that is not merely an aspiration in the life hereafter, but, through the grace of God (and only through the grace of God) and the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, actually possible in the here-and-now. This teaching is one of the distinctive doctrines of Wesleyan theology.

Itineracy or Itinerancy (both spellings are used) -- The system in The United Methodist Church by which pastors are appointed to their charges by the bishops. The pastors are under obligation to serve where appointed. The present form of the itineracy grew from the practice of Methodist pastors traveling widely throughout the church on circuits. Assigned to service by a bishop, they were not to remain with one particular congregation for any length of time.

Love - Wesleyans emphasize God's holy love. Because his essence is LOVE, we can be empowered by the Holy Spirit to love him in return and love others, even those that the world considers unlovable. A Nazarene theologian by the name of Mildred Bangs Wynkoop wrote a book on this called A Theology of Love.
