  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

The Pope kissing the Koran, Hindus doing their pagan ceremonies at Catholic churches, what is UP???!!!
The pope did that a long time ago and was blown out of proportion by every anti-pope propagandist with a computer and too much time on their hands.

Hindus doing ceremonies at Catholic Churches? That I don't know anything about.

My fuzzy memory here.

This came up on a thread before.
The pope was showing respect when he held the Kroan.. and there is no evidence that he kissed it. In the photo he is holding it.
However. *IF* he did kiss it, this was a sign of respect and not an endorsement.

The Hindus at Fatima subject was discussed in a thread too.

The Church has said this will not happen again.
The Church said this should not have happened and should never happen at any Catholic church (parish).

Karl Keating discussed on Catholic Answers about the kissing thing. He talked about how kissing an object is common when recieving a gift in that part of the world it means about the equavalent of a handshake or a nod upon recieving a gift in the Western world. Western world customs and mannerisms don't mean the same in certain places and visa versa. Since the Catholic Church is universal and not tied down to Western mannerisms, I guess he's allowed to adapt to different customs, especially since we know that he (the Pope) hasn't started teaching the Koran to Catholics. When that starts, then I would be troubled.

That is really weird and I dont know why he would do that. anyone know?
Because he may have made a mistake. Haven't any of you guys ever made mistakes before?

Anyway, it was probably a gesture of love and respect. Would people have looked at the Pope any differntly if he would have hacked a huge loogie on it? NO, they would have critisized him for that, too. What I am saying is that no matter what the man does, people critisize him for it.

Agrred. And if one wanted to gain the ear of a large percentage of the world with the hope of changing some minds or at least openning a crack in them, a sign of mutual respect was appropriate IMO.

Well yeah I guess it seems ok if it is out of respect for them I guess. What is wrong for praying to the Holy Mother for Peace Peace Peace? Umm, I highly doubt it is to Mary, and if it was, it should have been for her to ask God for peace peace peace not to deliver it herself as she can do nothing on her own without God. Oh, and we have much moer in common with Protestants than with Hindus.
