  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

AALC and LCMS main differences?

Glad no ordination of women. So are Jesus First and Daystar kind of like the "Ablaze" I keep hearing about? I don't know what the controversy of Ablaze is, but I know there is one.

I'm not going to worry about the LCMS going to the dogs, then, until and if it does. Guess I'll let the leaders duke it out.

"Ablaze" is a program that was intended to reach 100,000,000 people with the Gospel by the year 2017, the 500th anniversary of the posting of the 95 theses by Luther. On paper it seems like a good thing, but it has become a money hungry series of church growth projects that have failed miserably.

1. pertaining to, resembling, or containing anecdotes: an anecdotal history of jazz.
2. (of the treatment of subject matter in representational art) pertaining to the relationship of figures or to the arrangement of elements in a scene so as to emphasize the story content of a subject.
3. based on personal observation, case study reports, or random investigations rather than systematic scientific evaluation: anecdotal evidence.
The person offered no evidence outside of personel observation. Aside from the fact that the person was comenting on something akin to church fellowship and not a person asking me to pray with them or for them.

But if personal experience can be offered as evidence of an argument them I can offer the following.

a) My former church would offer communion to men that held to the new perspective on paul, the federal vision, theonomy, hyper-patriachy, and even those that held the same beliefs as the identy church.

b) one of the local cavalry chapels says that it's okay for two people to shack up as long as they are married in their hearts.

c) I've had baptists damn me to hell for baptizing my son.

One can then conclude, from the evidence given, that praying with said people would indeed go agianst sound doctrine.

Not only that, but the word "ablaze" appears four times in the ESV - and all are references to God's wrath. The most commonly read one is probably from Malachi:

Malachi 4:1 “For behold, the day is coming, burning like an oven, when all the arrogant and all evildoers will be stubble. The day that is coming shall set them ablaze, says the Lord of hosts, so that it will leave them neither root nor branch.

Personally, I would prefer to prevent people from becoming ablaze. The imagery just doesn't work for me, I keep seeing an eternal lake of fire in there somewhere.

I thought the exact same thing when I first heard it. Then again, maybe it has something to do with "setting the world on fire", or tongues of flames like during the Pentacost. I'd prefer to see a dove somewhere instead... but that could be the girl in me. :)
