I have lost a post a while back I pressed the backspace (but it was in Internet Explorer) and it took me back a page, and I lost everything. But now I use Mozilla, and if I press the backspace I can go forward and it will still be there. The only thing is if you press f5 (refresh) you will lose everything, and have to start all over.

Hehe that doesn't help if you have pressed the backspace and went back and page, or presed refresh (like I have).

I have also been using notepad more it's a lot easier.

Oh, yeah.  Sometimes the BBS software starts to run a script on the page (changing text into smilies, or changing text from normal to bold) and it loses its place.  Or, you hang your connection to the ISP.  There are also some posters who use an excessive number of smilies in their posts - when the BBS system reaches a maximum number of them, it refuses to accept the post. And you can't backspace to retrieve the text. I've lost several posts like that.

The only suggestion I can give you is that if it's a long post, write it in Notepad first, and then save it.  Otherwise, you run the risk of losing it.

Either that, or just before you hit the "Submit Reply" button, copy the text out of the response box and save it in a text editor.  That way if it happens again, you won't lose the entire thing.

Good luck.

The one that always gets me is ^W. On Unix, "^W" is almost always used for "erase last word typed". In Mozilla, that works as long as the text cursor is active - otherwise it closes the window. On Windows, it just closes the window. Worse still, Mozilla has no feature for "don't close a window with 10k of typed text in it without prompting". I submitted a bug, and they've been arguing about it for months. They basically said "good idea", someone submitted a patch, someone else said "don't do that, I have a better idea", and it's been sitting around like that for months.

Every time it has happened to me, I had just created a masterpiece of rhetoric, the likes of which hasn't been seen in the English language since Daniel Webster passed away. :)

Ahem....maybe a bit over the top, but more than once I've lost a nice big post and haven't had the heart to try and recreate it. Anymore when I do a big post, I just do it in Word (turn the WYSIWYG option off or it's a big mess when you cut and paste). That way you get to run the grammar/spell check and get rid of any embarrassing errors.
