  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I wish I was young and in good health. I would leave my hometown and join an Amish or Mennonite community. I would have no problem living without electricity as I was raised that way because it was not where we lived. Some of the happiest times in my life was then. That was a family time together because there were no electronics to separate us.

Today I live in a community where only a few of us older neighbors remember what being a neighbor is. If not for a couple neighbors, I could lay outside if I fell until the buzzards gathered and I assaulted the noses of my neighbors before anyone would stop and check on me. People no longer check on neighbors to see if they can help in anyway.

I would love to live in a community where the people believed the Bible and lived their lives as they believed. When you could talk to someone about God without being cursed or someone who did not use curse word frequently in their sentences; with people who loved and forgave instead of holding grudges. To be able to help someone out of love because they had a need. My heart longs to be with the people of God, not just on Sunday, but everyday of the year.

One of these day, I will live with them.... in heaven.

There is a great deal to respect and admire. We can do much of what they do. We can choose to live off the grid, people do it for spiritual, ethical, and who knows. Living a non-electric life certainly helps order a life. We can orient our lives to the Bible in a city, subburb, or even a prison. There are intentional communities joined in faith. Amish & menonite communities that generational standards have created behavior and tradittion that is more aligned to Christian living. God & community before self. There is a great deal of surrender it, is not for everyone.

I think about it too.
