I am having problems with some texts
I think a week is simply a week. and not in years.
If you are thinking of the 70 weeks of Daniel, the term in Hebrew was seventy "sevens", as in "units of seven". The Hebrews not only had a 7 day week, but also observed laws regarding 7 years. For instance, all debts were to be considered paid every 7 years.

Yes a week is a literal week as it should be.......changing the meaning of the word and relating it to past history only proves that most do not understand the future prophecy given.

Below is a previos thread on this week. I have a detailed thread on the entire prophecy which I will post.

Does 70 weeks = 490 years ?

If one were to HONESTLY study the scriptures without any preconcieved notion of the day = year theory there would be NO WAY for one to come to the conclusion. It is like saying 1+1=3, but if you teach this over and over, have prominant scholars say it is, and the majority agrees, then 1+1 does equal 3.

This is called brain washing folks, the majority has so convinced themselves of the fabled days = years that is is now become fact. Wow, how gulable the church is to unsound doctrine. Let's just scratch the surface of this discussion and look into the basis of this falicy ; 70 weeks of years.

The hebrew word for week - shabuwa

1. seven, a period of seven, heptad, week
a. a period of seven days, a week.

1. feast of weeks
b. heptad, seven

I am quite certain that Strongs Concordance included into thier translation the addition of (week or years). The word "shabuwa" thus reinforces that a week is a period of seven a characteristic of the word but in no way does it mean to change the word completely. God forbid !.

Problems with claiming weeks = days of years

1. First, does not the Hebrew language have a word for stating a time span of a year ? Daniel even uses the word year previously in the chapter but now uses the word week to mean year ? Wow....

2. Second, study the word "shabuwa" and nowhere does it make sence to input meaning years instead of what it states. Example, the same word (shabuwa) is used in chapter 10:2 so are we to believe that Daniel did not eat for three years ?? Moreover look close…you see that Daniel prefaces this word in chapter 10 by using "full week". Why does Daniel now need to make this distinction? Because the previous week he had mentioned (the 70th week in chapter 9 ) was cut short, not completed due to the return of everlasting righteousness.

3. Proving days = years. It is sad that additional wrongs are taught to try to support this claim most notably the seven year gap. ( the tribulation is not even 7 years to start with ).

There will be those which will claim the 70 weeks have passed, those which will say the commandment to rebuild was by this decree or that decree, there will be those who will give calculations of years supporting thier claim on and on......

The 70 weeks will be 490 continous days which will culminate with the prince which shall come; Jesus Christ.

24: "Seventy weeks of years are decreed concerning your people and your holy city,

It cleary says years in the translation...? Now does the Hebrew not use a word for years?

Is this year to day translation unusual?

Ezekiel 4
4: "Then lie upon your left side, and I will lay the punishment of the house of Israel upon you; for the number of the days that you lie upon it, you shall bear their punishment.
5: For I assign to you a number of days, three hundred and ninety days, equal to the number of the years of their punishment; so long shall you bear the punishment of the house of Israel.
6: And when you have completed these, you shall lie down a second time, but on your right side, and bear the punishment of the house of Judah; forty days I assign you, a day for each year.

Apparently no. I agree the most direct means is correct and the prophesy is direct in both cases using the time of years. It would appear your interpretation is difficult.

On another note you are quite right on the suspended 70th week. It is nonsensicle to assume a suspended week. The confusion is when the 70th week is applied to the anti-christ.

Dear jaxxman I agree with both you and ross 3421, 100%.
What I do not agree to is when some take the following verses out of context and apply them to other verses which have no connection whatsoever.

Ezekiel 4: 6. “Lie thou also upon thy left side, and lay the iniquity of the house of Israel upon it: to the number of the days that thou shalt lie upon it thou shalt bear their iniquity.

5. For I have laid upon thee the years of their iniquity, according to the number of the days, three hundred and ninety days: so shalt thou bear the iniquity of the house of Israel. 6And when thou hast accomplished them, lie again on thy right side, and thou shalt bear the iniquity of the house of Judah forty days: I have appointed thee EACH DAY FOR A YEAR.

The above states that he shall bear ONE DAY FOR EACH YEAR!
Yet below we have them bearing FORTY YEARS FOR FORTY DAYS makes it ONE YEAR FOR EACH DAY!

Numbers 14: 34. After the number of the days in which ye searched the land, even forty days, EACH DAY FOR A YEAR, SHALL YE BEAR YOUR INIQUITIES, even FORTY YEARS, and ye shall know my breach of promise.
Two opposite samples which in context make sense but pulled out and applied to unrelated verses creates a forced rendering, a construct and is biblically unsound.

An example of applying unrelated verses to make them somehow fit a preconceived notion is easy, and as you are well aware causes a distortion. Let me give you an example.

2 Samuel 17: 23. And when Ahithophel saw that his counsel was not followed, he saddled his ass, and arose, and gat him home to his house, to his city, and put his household in order, and HANGED HIMSELF, and died, and was buried in the sepulchre of his father.
Judges 7: 17. And he said unto them, LOOK ON ME, and DO LIKEWISE: and, behold, when I come to the outside of the camp, it shall be, AS I DO YE SHALL DO.

Matt 27: 5. And he cast down the pieces of silver in the temple, and departed, and went and hanged himself.

A simple ‘tongue in cheek’ point.

This is not the first time a week is 7 years in Scripture.

Genesis 29:27 "Fulfill her week, and we will give you this one also for the service which you will serve with me still another seven years."
I am sorry to disagree, but I see it differently. I think a week of wedding celebrations means simply a week and seems not to represent seven years. It seems that verse 30 proves that Laban, had to work another seven years for Rachel, on top of the seven he had served already for Leah, that makes 14 years all up.

Let me use capitals for emphasis purposes only.
Gen 29: 16.And Laban had two daughters: the name of the elder was Leah, and the name of the younger was Rachel.
17. Leah was tender eyed; but Rachel was beautiful and well favoured.

18And Jacob loved Rachel; and said, I WILL SERVE THEE SEVEN YEARS for Rachel thy younger daughter.
19. And Laban said, It is better that I give her to thee, than that I should give her to another man: abide with me.

20And Jacob SERVED SEVEN YEARS FOR RACHEL; and they seemed unto him but a few days, for the love he had to her.

21. And Jacob said unto Laban, Give me my wife, for my days are fulfilled, that I may go in unto her.

22. And Laban gathered together all the men of the place, and made a feast.
23. And it came to pass in the evening, that he took Leah his daughter, and brought her to him; and he went in unto her.

24. And Laban gave unto his daughter Leah Zilpah his maid for an handmaid.

25. And it came to pass, that in the morning, behold, it was Leah: and he said to Laban, What is this thou hast done unto me? did not I serve with thee for Rachel? wherefore then hast thou beguiled me?

26.And Laban said, It must not be so done in our country, to give the younger before the firstborn.

27. Fulfil her week, and we will give thee this also for the service which THOU SHALT SERVE WITH ME YET OTHER SEVEN YEARS.

28. AND JACOB DID SO, and fulfilled her week: and he gave him Rachel his daughter to wife also.

29. And Laban gave to Rachel his daughter Bilhah his handmaid to be her maid.

30. And he went in also unto Rachel, and he loved also Rachel more than Leah, AND SERVED WITH HIM YET SEVEN OTHER YEARS.

The above verse has nothing to do with a week equalling 7 years. The week which was to be fullfilled by Jacob was the week of the feast representing the marriage. Check your Jewish wedding tradition guide.......

Ge 29:22And Laban gathered together all the men of the place, and made a feast.

This should also gives us understanding that the 70th week of Daniel whereby we see a sacrifice is the following 7-day wedding feast as well.

If Daniel was all we had to go on, it would be difficult, but not impossible to come up with the 70th week of Daniel. Daniel used the term, "time, times, and half of time" I believe twice, referring to the second half of the week; the week [of seven years] being split in half by the abomination event.

However, we also have Revelation. Here we find five more mentions of this half of the week time span, given as 1260 days, 42 months, and again as time, times and half of time. With all these scriptures, it would be difficult to prove there was not a 7 year period called the "70th week," or "Jacob's trouble."

Therefore, God has given us at least 7 scriptures to prove that if half of the time is 3 1/2 years, then both halves together are 7 full years.

Is it no wonder then, that the church of Jesus Christ has had this 7 year time frame as church doctrine for many years?
