  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Does God ever take things that we think we need to show we don't really need them? And if we need those things he takes, does he replace them?

It's just a small question that is biting at the back of my mind.

Hi BR!

Well, I know I don't have as much knowledge of scripture or understanding of God's word as a lot of the people on this forum. I can speak to you about my own experiences though, and they would show that, yes, sometimes God does take things away from you. Sometimes you feel like the rug has been pulled out from under you and for a while it can be really scary. But to me it seems that it really is true that when one door closes another one opens...at least one, if not more!! I'm actually more in touch with God and in a better place than I was before these changes happened in my life, even though my situation is by no means perfect! I don't think it's necessarily just to show you that you don't need things, although that definitely is part of it - more that they are not part of the plan God has for you. What I mean is, he's not merely taking away things, hes giving and guiding you. So the answer is yes, in my opinion anyway!

I don't believe God takes away anything from our lives. To interfere with free will would counter-act the entire fundamental principle of the free-will itself. Either we have freedom, or we don't -- It's not a 50/50 kinda deal. And I believe that we do.

I think as God's creations, we have been charged to live our own lives to the fullest, and we can make our own choices. Sometimes, we make pretty bad choices, but it's all part of the learning process. I don't think God gives us or takes away anything that will change the lessons we learn in life from the potential pit-falls of being mortal beings.

Free will has it's ups and downs, but I for one am thankful for it. *shrugs* :)

On a side note.. I do believe that perhaps one could feel compelled by God's suggestion that something in his or her life needs to go for his or her betterment as a person for some reason. But, it is up to us to follow that suggestion, or ignore it completely.

Pro 3:12 For whom the LORD loveth He correcteth; even as a father the son in whom he delighteth.

Heb 12:6 For whom the Lord loveth He chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom He receiveth.

Deu 32:39 See now that I, even I, am He, and there is no god with Me: I kill, and I make alive; I wound, and I heal: neither is there any that can deliver out of My hand.

Sometimes God will thwart us in order to bring us to something better. Sometimes He wounds in order to heal us completely. Most if not all of the time, it is to show us spiritual things. Not merely that we don't need certain physical things.

My pastor once said that God will reduce our resources to develop our character; that said, I do think that he with holds things from us, not out of selfishness or a power trip, but to enable us to grow and learn.
