  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I'll say

John 8:1-11, 1But Jesus went to the Mount of Olives. 2At dawn he appeared again in the temple courts, where all the people gathered around him, and he sat down to teach them. 3The teachers of the law and the Pharisees brought in a woman caught in adultery. They made her stand before the group 4and said to Jesus, "Teacher, this woman was caught in the act of adultery. 5In the Law Moses commanded us to stone such women. Now what do you say?" 6They were using this question as a trap, in order to have a basis for accusing him.

But Jesus bent down and started to write on the ground with his finger. 7When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, "If any one of you is without sin, let him be the first to throw a stone at her." 8Again he stooped down and wrote on the ground.
9At this, those who heard began to go away one at a time, the older ones first, until only Jesus was left, with the woman still standing there. 10Jesus straightened up and asked her, "Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?" 11"No one, sir," she said.
"Then neither do I condemn you," Jesus declared. "Go now and leave your life of sin."

Guy's a jerk, no other way to put it. You could make that same argument without throwing insults every other second.
Anywhoot, I'd suggest taking the video down. Moderation is to the letter of the law, not the spirit when it comes to cursing, and even though it wasn't you using expletives, that video will likely get you a warning if you don't remove it.

Oh dear, what terrible exegesis, you really are better off reading the NT than learning the Bible from that kind of video. The letters of Paul explain all the situation relating to the Law and the Old Covenant versus the New Covenant, Romans (especially), Galatians and Hebrews are the main ones which deal with it.

Jesus was teaching principles. He came to fulfil the Law, not perpetuate it, read the commentaries at the bottom of the page here: Matthew 5:17 "Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. for more understanding. About the great in the kingdom of heaven passage read here: Matthew 5:19 Anyone who breaks one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever practices and teaches these commands will be called great in the kingdom of heaven..

A Rebellious Son
"If a man has a stubborn and rebellious son who does not obey his father and mother and will not listen to them when they discipline him, his father and mother shall take hold of him and bring him to the elders at the gate of his town. They shall say to the elders, “This son of ours is stubborn and rebellious. He will not obey us. He is a profligate and a drunkard.” Then all the men of his town shall stone him to death. You must purge the evil from among you. All Israel will hear of it and be afraid." (Deuteronomy 21:18-21)

NB: (profligate =
1. wasteful: extremely extravagant or wasteful
2. with low morals: having or showing extremely low moral standards)

Jamieson-Fausset-Brown Bible Commentary
18-21. If a man have a stubborn and rebellious son-A severe law was enacted in this case. But the consent of both parents was required as a prevention of any abuse of it; for it was reasonable to suppose that they would not both agree to a criminal information against their son except from absolute necessity, arising from his inveterate and hopeless wickedness; and, in that view, the law was wise and salutary, as such a person would be a pest and nuisance to society. The punishment was that to which blasphemers were doomed [Le 24:23]; for parents are considered God's representatives and invested with a portion of his authority over their children.

It really was a last case scenario for a really intractable situation. We're not under Law anymore, so the church enacting the physical death penalty is clearly just out-there wrong, as can be inferred throughout the New Testament. The equivalent in the church for really terrible sin is probably excommunication.
"What business is it of mine to judge those outside the church? Are you not to judge those inside? God will judge those outside. “Expel the wicked man from among you.'" (1 Corinthians 5:13)

The rest just look up the passages and read the commentaries here: Online Parallel Bible: Weaving God's Word into the Web. You could have done all that yourself without having to post the hate video, but nevermind. There are answers, it just takes looking for them.
