The other night I went out to the Christian book store in the city we live in with my daugter.  I was there to pick up some Bible highlighters and to try and teach my daughter about money and buying things.  Recently we have had to go back into a few stores because she has grabbed something we did not see and found it when putting her in the car.  Anyways... I took her to the part of the store with little stuff for her and told her that she could buy something with the money she had in her purse.  So she picked out a ball and I told she could afford something else so she picked out a Veggitales pencil.  She was so excited to get this stuff.  I told her that is all she could afford and she didn't try to pick up anything else.  I told her that she now has to use her money to pay for the ball and pencil and she walked up to the counter.  This was so funny cause she barely could reach the counter, but she put her stuff on the counter.  Then she opened her purse and took out her money and put it on the counter.  The lady at the store was great and talked to her the whole time.  She gave her her change and said thank-you for paying.  She put her change and her ball and pencil back in her purse and was ready to go.

This may sound silly to some people but it was a very touching moment that I know that most parents will understand.  Watching her do all that so nicely just about brought me to tears.  She made me so proud and so happy.

Thank God for children.  And thank God for all the help and strength He gives us to raise them from day to day.

It is indeed wonderful.

My daughter (26 months) will not let me walk away from the check out without giving her the coin change so she can put it in whatever donation bucket is sitting on the checkout stand. During Christmas, she would stop at the Salvation Army ringers and tell me "Daddy, I need 'pennies' (what she calls all change) to put in it".

She is more than cute :pink:  ... she is Daddy's little angel.

There was one other thing I forgot to add to the original post.  Was going to do it as a PS but forgot.

My daughter goes to daycare on Thursday and Fridays and Fridays are show and tell.  Yesterday I asked her what she wanted to take for show'n'tell and she did her mmmmmmmm sigh mmmmmmmmm then replied Bible.  So at two she has already started to be a witness for Christ.

I will post a picture of her i can figure it out.

My daughter is now just about eight and has always been great with her money. Lots in many piggy banks and is very generous with it with the World Vision kids we sponsor.

Recently though she saw something she wanted and asked her mom and I about it if she could buy it. We felt she should not just use her existing $ and choose to use it to teach her the value of money. We gave her specific chores to do around the house that were not part of her normal chores. She worked hard and earned herself "the Prize" but she knows want that is worth to her and she treats it like precious gems!

We learned this from John Smally's serious "Growing Kids God's Way". It was an awesome coarse we took with a bunch of other couples from our church and would highly recommend it to any new parents and parents dealing with difficult children.
It deals with the areas of discipline and chastisment later in the coarse when you have a good sound foundation in parenting too.

If you want any info on it please feel free to PM me.

Mine is soon to eight. I have learned the lessons of teaching children early what is important in life. She knows who loves her the most(Jesus), she knows what Jesus did for her, and she also knows why and how to take the Lord's Supper. Oh yeah, seems there is a good group of daughters here. I hope there are good mates for all, if they marry.

wow this is what parenting is all about. My son just turned 5 today. He is still learning the money thing tho. But he is really good about going thru his room and getting rid of his toys that he doesnt use anymore. Then he helps me decide what to do with them since many are in good condition. We have donated some to the church nursery, some to the big family who lives in the apartment next to ours. Others he gives to his younger cousin. Being an only child the hardest thing for him to learn is sharing so Mommy gets pretty proud when he shares. Today he got his new presents and I really didnt expect him to want to share them but he shared with his two cousins boy was I proud.
