I came across this today:
Now, I ask that you also read the whole 24th chapter (it's a short chapter) and you will see that God, in His Sovereignty, sovereignly decreed that He would give the exiles a heart to know Him and to return to Him. However, He did not give this gift to the other Jews.
Only God can give a man or woman this heart to love Him. No one would ever want to serve the Lord with all their heart. No man could. He could try, in his own efforts, but he would fail eventually.
Let us praise the Lord that He has given us this brand new heart! Why did He choose you or me? That is up to the Lord to know and decide. But be thankful that He has chosen us, and let us grow in grace and love for one another, according to the grace given to each one of us.
All praise be to the Holy Trinity!
To those who are contemplating Calvinism: please read the chapter and I pray that God brings you to the truth that yes, He commands mankind to repent and obey Him, but that only He can give mankind that heart. When Jesus said, "Love the Lord thy God with all your heart and all your soul and all your strength," He was talking only to those who had the ability to hear and repent and obey - and only His Father can give men that ability.
Salvation is of the Lord.

Jeremiah 24:7 KJ
7And I will give them an heart to know me, that I am the LORD: and they shall be my people, and I will be their God: for they shall return unto me with their whole heart.
7And I will give them an heart to know me, that I am the LORD: and they shall be my people, and I will be their God: for they shall return unto me with their whole heart.
