A Thread for My Book

Okay, I've decided that I'm going to start a thread for a book I'm writing, mostly for discussion and suggestions. I've been writing it for a little over a month and have hit a little writer's block and need some ideas. The book is based in a fantasy world where magic is existent but limited mostly to the richest families (clans) on the island. If you have questions, I would love to answer them to try to get some help, but I'm afraid that I'll only be on tonight and early tomorrow morning before I leave for church camp for a week, so please don't be insulted if I don't answer your questions.

Thank you! Actually, I'm afraid that I wasn't originally planning on posting it on CF...not yet, at least. It is too far from a complete version because I'm still revising and twiking what I've completed as well as thinking of additional storyline to add in, so I could easily not even be half-done yet. Still, thanks for helping out! I've run into a little writer's block lately, so that's why I've set up this thread. Thanks again!

i've got a question for you. how is it that the richest families control the magic? can a man go from rags to riches? or is the ability to control magic based on old money? what happens when a rich family loses everything? does the magic go with it?

If you want inspiration, look to other art sources such as movies, books, pictures, songs. Art stimulates the mind. Look to other aspects that you haven't found thought about before. Don't just think inside the box, think outside and inside the box.

In response to your question, oncewaslost, the richest families control the ability to learn magic because the only known way to learn magic is to study an ancient tome and there is only one person who recopys the tome on the entire island. He chargest outrageous prices for a single copy, so much that many clans have been saving up money for several generations and still can't afford it. Therefore, only the richest clans on the island can afford to buy the tome and teach themselves magic and they aren't willing to teach others for reasonable prices.
