• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

A third time?

And it's exactly why our rights cannot come from the government.

exactly.

personally, I think that when someone claims that civil rights come from God and wants to make that more than rhetoric and a substantive part of the law, he's courting serious problems.

he'll pay lip service to the sentiment, depending on his audience at the time. at some point, he'll address a conference of southern baptists and rest assured the One will mention The One many times.

The sad thing is that the people wanted change from things like this--the games. We really thought that we finally were going to get "change" and instead we got "politics as usual".

Must we expect that politicians have CDD? The Founding Fathers sure didn't have it. They said what they meant and meant what they said. No games.

they didn't get it right the first time. the DOI was followed by the failed Articles of Confederation. the Constitution sets up a workable compromise between self and public, local and national interests.

That's cuz Ayn Rand is stupid, but then again, I can assure you that plenty of atheists don't like Ayn Rand either.

The preponderance of secularists and atheists are big government leftists, like Obama for instance. Not that Obama is an atheist, but his worldview is very much the same as the secular elites of the academia which is his first home.

While many leftist do indeed see anyone who is conservative as stupid (not to mention inherently evil), what Ayn Rand is is a rabidly anti-communistic, libertarian, unabashed capitalist who has made greed into her highest value. Having been raised under the Soviet system, this is her response to the leftist kind of stupidity that she personally saw ruin so many lives.

Either way, she is hardly a good example to explain what Obama said.

lol i hope i do not sound offensive but I am confused
you think our rights come from God but that people should not talk about them like they come from God?

that's my personal belief, and note, I'm neither writing a constitution nor interpreting it, so what I think doesn't impact anything.

but, if you claim that rights emanate from God and that is important enough to be a part of your law, then you're inviting a human institution like congress or a court to speak on His behalf on political matters.

this is a really, really bad idea; its as bad as stating that rights come from the government. stating that they come from God without it having any other meaning than they don't come from the government is just a legal fiction fiction acceptable people of any faith or no faith.
