A Theory.

I'm new here.

But i'd like to jump in at the deep end as i am not knew to deabtes such as this.

I am not strictly Christian, nor Jewish, nor Muslim.

But i have a theory, theory that probably not many of you think of because of the very structure of religous teachings, being based around a certain book or number of books. Thus this theory will seem strange, yet hopefully it wil click very quikcly.

I suppose i can start with a simple translation, Allah is translated as God in the Arabic language. Therefore we can surmise that Muhammed was a messenger of God, the God.

Whats 'The God' i hear you ask.
Well consider the numerous religous books, we'll start with the oldest, the Torah, that is of course, what the Jewish religion is based around. The we have the Bible, what Christianity is based around. The lastly we have the Koran, or Quaran, the book on which the Muslim/Islamic faith is founded.
Here's my theory.

All of these books talk about God, what if that God was the only God and that these three books were all from the same God and he was simply giving us more instructions, the Torah being the first, with the Koran as the last.
Could it be possible that there is only one God? In my opinion there is only one God, he is Allah and the Christian and the Jewish God, and because of humanity's idiocy we haven't gotten the whole picture, the forgettong books of the bible, for instance, where the word Heretic came from, maybe that explains it, maybe we will never now, but it certainly gives you food for thought.

PS: If my theory is already a founded and known religion then i apologise but i have certainly never heard of it if there is.

Yes your "theory" is known to me and we Baha'is pretty much accept it!

The great Holy Books are chapters of the same great Revelation from the One God that has manifested Himself to humanity over the ages...

God is one and many of the differences in religions occurred because of cultural variations and the time and situations they were revealed in.

We Baha'is would say though that the Great Book of Revelation has had a few additional chapters added since the Qur'an was revealed.

Here is a Baha'i prayer:

O Thou kind Lord! Unite all.

Let the religions agree and make the nations one, so that they may see each other as one family and the whole earth as one home. May they all live together in perfect harmony. *

I think this a neat theory, but before anyone jumps to conclusions, they should perhaps do research on the holy books of the faiths you are talking about. As much as I think this is a good idea, I would much rather look for the problems/loopholes first before going any further. Still I like it

I reject this theory. There are many Gods and Goddesses; Yahweh is one of them, Allah is another, Zeus yet another, Inanna yet another still. To worship any of Them is to worship the one Creator-God behind Them all, but They are each real and distinct as is one person from another.

Good shot, Dark_Lite: I am indeed a soft polytheist. I have evidence leading me to believe there is one Creator-God behind Them all, chiefly cosmological necessity, near-death experiences and spiritualist writings.

Your post was slightly misleading to me then. The way you worded it, it sounded like you were a hard polytheist except there was one god who created all of the separate gods.

Well, there is a scale running from monotheism to ultra-soft polytheism to nearly-hard polytheism to hard polytheism. I think I’m on the nearly-hard group. My belief in a God Behind The Gods does make me a soft polytheist, though.

As for your theory Karl, I agree though for me it is expanded to all religious books as well as all views of the Divine.....same God many different views, perceptions , and expalinations.

well , I think they are aspects or expressions just like all of creation is(rocks, trees, people), but they are also distinclty individual, basically I think all of creation are all distincly individual whiole at the same time they are all One and the same, so Gods and Goddessess are beings who are 100% consciousness or in other words they are awakened, so they are in that sense above humans but at the same time not. But i also think all Gods and Goddessess are One Spirit. This is probably confusing so anyway, thank you for the link i'll check it out.

I'd like to thank everyone for their replies, i considered them all, except the one about Gods like Zeus, that comes under Greek Mythology, most people don't think mythology is true, i.e. that Zeus and the Greek Gods were simply creations of the mind, paranoia of early man.

I will certainly be checking up on the Baha'i religion, i have heard of it, but no one ever told me the principles of it, or even the basic structure.
