To everyone here in "Deeper Fellowship,"
I'm on my second day here and, I feel comfortable enough to finally share with you all a bit about myself (some times I can be long winded)
I was brought up in a Lutheran Church, baptized as a baby and went through conformation, however I had no clue what any of it was about. When I went to Indiana State University, my parents went on a search for a new Church; there were a lot of problems with the one they were attending. As for me, I quit going to church altogether. I failed out of college due to alcohol abuse. I lived, back then, for the party and that was it. When I got my grades, I new I needed to get out of there and try and fix myself, so I joined the Navy. I spent nine years in the Navy trying to "fix myself," but, as we know, you can't do it all on your own. I didn't know it at the time, my mom and dads new church had been praying for me for about three years. I went home on leave and went to church with my mom and dad. The pastor gave a sermon (and I remember it so clearly) on the Master to Servant relationship between God and us. It was as if Jesus was asking me then, Will you serve me? For one full year, I struggled with how to answer that question. I was a failure at almost every thing that I did, what could I do to serve the King of Kings?! I pulled my conformation Bible out of my, Junk from the past drawer, and turned to the book of John. As I read I watched Jesus turn simple fishermen and a tax collector into something wonderful. Could this happen to me? Could I become as these men? Then I remembered what my mom and dads pastor said about opening up our hearts to the Lord. And what he read,
(Revelation 3:4) Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me.
This was the turning tide. I knelt down in true prayer for the first time in my life. From there on out (July 20, 2002) I have been filled with wonderful joy. Ive been fully inspired to read and understand the Bible, and speak to people about Jesus every chance I get. Ive even started to get creative about how to bringing it up in conversation. I love the Lord, and He knows my heart.
Well, I hope youre not annoyed by the long post.
