Well done. Now if he would do us on the West Coast a great favour and get rid of the blithering idiot they call a distict President, the LCMS will have really made great strides.

Sadly though, I've no idea how they're going to recover congregations like Trinity in Redding. Those people are so far out in LA-LA Land as to barely be recognizable as Lutherans anymore. They aren't alone either. There are a lot of congregations just like them. I do hope and pray that Harrison has this on his desk and proceeds with the redemption of these wayward congregations and thier pastors with dispatch.

They had been training and conferences with the ELCA. WELS does not have Chaplains. We have to remember that the Chaplaincy in the military works much differently than in civilian life. There may not even be a Lutheran Chaplain on a Post, much less an LCMS one. This is even more difficult during deployments.

I am glad that we will no longer be doing the training and such with the ELCA Chaplains.

What bothers me more is the fact that there are rumblings of creating Chaplains for atheists. When one Chaplain is assigned to a unit, that could get interesting, especially during deployments. Chaplains are to provide for the needs of their unit members and I can't imagine going to an atheist for help.

I personally have somewhat of an . . . insecurity about us providing chaplins anyways. Mostly because when you are on the government payroll you have to say things that the government approves of.

Contrary to what we hear, Chaplains are not restricted like we hear they are.

My husband was an Army Chaplain and two of our friends currently are. Don't believe everything you hear.

They are elected by district conventions. Typically, half of the delegates are laypersons and half are clergy.

The president of the Pacific Southwest District was re-elected (to a third or fourth term - I don't know which) at such.

While I realize passions run high in my beloved synod, I'm very uncomfortable when brothers are spoken of in degrading, disrespectful ways. Whether we agree with their thoughts or actions 100% of the time or not. IMO, same goes to our own pastors. Just MY own personal, fallible feeling about that.

Ehh its church politics . . . Maybe there are better ways of saying it but you have to be able to be clear that you disapprove of someone's leadership when you find their leadership to be lacking.
