  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

:sigh: Here's what I did this morning...

This is the last weekend I have to work until next February, so I'll be missing the church potluck today. (We have a potluck after church every time there is a fifth Sunday in the month.) Even though I won't be there, I got some requests to send my tamale pie with my family.

My plan was to put together the meat before work, then come home on break and do the corn bread topping before the family went to church. I start work at 7:00, and I usually get up around 4:30 or 5.

This morning I got up around 5. I put on the coffee and decided to make a batch of blueberry muffins before I started the tamale pie. By the time I finished everything (except the corn bread topping), it was about 6:45 and time for me to get dressed for work and head out the door. (I work at a state trout hatchery and live on the grounds in state housing. Being able to come home for breaks and lunch is way cool!! )

As I was digging in the dark closet (my wife was still sleeping) for a uniform shirt, I looked at my clock and then realized...I was supposed to set them back last night!! D'OH!!

I went ahead and made the corn bread topping before I went to work...so that's outta the way now.

And speaking of going to work...it's now really 6:45, so I gotta run!!

curiously.

every rule has an exception. exceptions to the rules included.

leap year every 4 years except the century years (1900, 1800 etc)
except the centuries divisible by 4, like 2000

the country-US goes on daylight savings time.
except for Arizona.(and some other places)
except for the navaho and hopi indian reservations.

What is a tamale pie?

I suppose you could call it a Mexican casserole...although I highly doubt it's 'authentic' Mexican!

It's basically a ground beef mixture with a corn bread topping. My recipe has evolved a bit since we first started making it about ten years ago. I make my ground beef with crushed garlic; diced onion, green & red bell pepper; salt, pepper, cumin, and chili powder to taste; and the latest two additions have been fire-roasted diced green chilies and some sort of salsa (I like to use Pace picante sauce...add the salsa last, after the ground beef is browned and drained). Once the hamburger is browned with all of this stuff, put it in a casserole dish, add a can of stewed tomatoes (I like the ones with basil and oregano), a can of kidney beans, and top it with the corn bread batter. Bake until the corn bread is done.

I had never heard of it until about ten years ago, but since then I've seen dozens of various recipies for it. It's actually become pretty common here in the States.

Oh, yeah....they loved it!!

I hope not, but I'd believe it. It's not fun for families with little kids who have to travel a long way to school - they ended up getting on the bus in the dark during the Olympics when they changed over early.

Can't stand daylight saving.

They changed our town clock on Monday (a day late), but somebody stuffed up. Usually it chimes every 15 minutes, and tones the hour as well (like dong, dong, dong, dong, etc). It goes from 8am to 8pm. Somebody did something that made it chime all day and night - it was horrible. Every 15 minutes all day and night.....
