Tenure of Office Act, which was, itself, probably unconstitutional,
I believe it was either repealed or struck down about 1883.....
The Johnson impeachment was ostensibly based on his violation of the Tenure of Office Act, which was, itself, probably unconstitutional, but that was more-or-less a cover for Representatives' objection to Johnson's racist attitudes, terrible and violent rhetoric, and his ceding autonomy back to southern states still trying to oppress black citizens.
And yet in the 1876 presidential election the R party had done just that......

It is not an opinion....it is how the Constituion is designed.

The camel and the tent.....so keep him outside.

It would not be a bad thing for it to be reviewed constantly....to ensure that all branches remain co-equal.
They are not quite co-equal. Congress has the authority to oversee the actions of the President and the power to remove him from office. The President, on the other hand, has no such power over Congress.

Very true, it has never been quite equal but as long the the presidents party controls at least 1/3 of either house he has a veto proof margin...which can bring opponents to heel....

An undesirable situation for all concerned.

Yeah, it took a little while for people to figure out how little they cared about protecting the rights of blacks. And his platform of civil service reform was given a boost by the cartoonish levels of corruption exposed in Grant's 2nd administration.
