Yes, and we need to be choosy about who we learn from. I thank Jesus for my excellent teachers and pastors. We can all learn. It is a lifelong process.

That's why I'll continue to try to help you and anyone else where I see a need. That's part of what being a minister is all about.
Thanks, but no thanks. We are all to be pastors in God's view. When a shepherd leads sheep far from the truth, God says, "Woe to them."
I only follow and receive from those who teach truth.
If you believe that, you aren't a literalist. If you were a Biblical literalist you wouldn't sell all your goods and give to the poor either, because that wasn't/isn't what it says.
The man was told to sell everything because his goods were to important to him. They were his idol.
only because a dog is incapable of giving informed consent. Homosexuals are totally capable of taking part in a loving, equal, mutually consenting partnership, which is totally pleasing to God.They don't talk about being married to your dog, either. You know it's wrong!

God does not consider any person equivalent to a dog. Jesus said this quite explicetly in the "consider the birds of the air" bit.The way God sees it, you may as well marry your dog. It's abominable. There's no denying it--but you do nonetheless. What a waste.
Uhh...no....dogs are not humans, invalid comparison beyond . It is "abominable" to compare humans and humans to a human and a dog. It's a waste. The way God sees it, you may as well marry your dog. It's abominable. There's no denying it--but you do nonetheless. What a waste.
Not necessarily, you can be a literalist that actually takes the time to understand context. If you believe that, you aren't a literalist.

So you're wrong.
if you concede that sometimes the Bible des not mean what it literally says, and requires interpretation due to things like "context"... you aren't a literalist. Not necessarily, you can be a literalist that actually takes the time to understand context.
congratulations. Relevance factor of quote to thread: zero!We don't know for sure what God thinks of some people that died in their sins, but you can be assured He isn't pleased with them. If they were a dog instead of a human, they would have an excuse when they stand before Him.
Consider this: not everyone that seeks the straight gate to heaven will enter in. Unlike the birds of the air, we have an eternal soul. You only get one chance with life -- don't be wrong with it.
really depends on how you define the term 'literalist' i suppose. one can be a literalist as long as they are adhering to their particular interpretation, regardless of what it is.if you concede that sometimes the Bible des not mean what it literally says, and requires interpretation due to things like "context"... you aren't a literalist.
well, the literalists I have a problem with, are the ones who insist the Bible is LITERALLY true, and insist that the Bible is true over observable realityreally depends on how you define the term 'literalist' i suppose. one can be a literalist as long as they are adhering to their particular interpretation, regardless of what it is.

but THAT is an article of faith... not an elemental property of the universe denied by people because they find the conclusions "uncomfortable"Thats where faith and literalism intersect. Some things in the bible are not meant to be taken word for word literal. However, if you are holding the bible to an 'observable reality' standard, then I'm surprised you are still Christian. What in observable reality would ever suggest that it is possible for God to send His Son to earth to die and resurrect, and also to take away our sins?
There are several explanations to why something can appear to contradict itself, while still being literally truthful. Since the bible is a compilation of different books by different writers, it is very possible that 2 different people could explain the same event in a totally different or even contradictory way. Regardless of this, the inerrancy part of the bible is in regard to God's message to His people. Other than that, I don't know what contradictions you are referring to.but THAT is an article of faith... not an elemental property of the universe denied by people because they find the conclusions "uncomfortable"
I don't know if I can explain this adequately online.
I believe in God, I believe in Jesus, I believe in miracles... I also believe that God created the universe using scientifically observable methods, and that, although the Bible is inspired by Him, it is NOT his inerrant word, and that when logical contradictions occur in the Bible, whatever explanation we come up with CANNOT say that two contradictory statements are LITERALLY true.
