  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

My husband and I were talking last evening about 1Cor 13. ( A small history, my husband talking about anything related to the Bible is a big thing, he hasn't really wanted to for the entire time we have been together. ( 15 years )

His question was this, Why would God make mankind and put us through all of this if he truly did love us as he says ? Is it for entertainment? ( I kid you not, this is what he asked )

I know there might not be an answer, but I told him I would ask. I am no way a theologian, so I don't have the slightest idea where to even look.

Thank you for your time... we appreciate it.

You might ask him if he feels he has been very entertaining in the eyes of God. I am sure that God has had some chuckles at his expense.

God didn't make man as an entertainment feature he created him in his image to have fellowship with him. Genesis says that he saw it and it was good.
God, however, isn't a puppeteer and gave us a choice by telling us that there were two trees we must not eat of in the Garden. Now did he do this knowing we would eventually eat of this tree? So why set us up if he already knew? He wanted us to choose him. However, we know from history that we chose ourselves and because of self-interest a.k.a. SIN we were doomed to perdition by our action and die a physical death.

God gave man a promise that one day the seed from the woman would come to redeem them. This seed would crush the head of the serpent who deceived them into eating the forbidden fruit. Christ is that seed and by what he did on the cross did permanent damage to Satan's power over us.

The Chapter and verses you sight show the love of God and all the characteristics of that love. We do not exhibit these characteristics on our own but with the help of the Holy Spirit. Only through God's mercy and Grace by faith in what his son has done already for you is your salvation.

(Gen 1:1) In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

And as it is written in the book of Job, it was a time "When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy" (Job 38:7). It was not created void (Isa. 45:18).

Among those morning stars, there was the annointed cherub, an entity created "full of wisdom, and perfect in beauty." (Ezek 28:12)

(Ezek 28:15) Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee.

(Ezek 28:16) By the multitude of thy merchandise they have filled the midst of thee with violence, and thou hast sinned: therefore I will cast thee as profane out of the mountain of God: and I will destroy thee, O covering cherub, from the midst of the stones of fire.

(Ezek 28:17) Thine heart was lifted up because of thy beauty, thou hast corrupted thy wisdom by reason of thy brightness: I will cast thee to the ground, I will lay thee before kings, that they may behold thee.

In his lifting up, "his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven, and did cast them to the earth" (Rev 12:4).

Therefore the earth became "without form and void" (Gen. 1:2), and the katabole of the world was brought about, during which time the elect were chosen (Eph. 1:4).

"'The disruption of the world' is an event forming a great dividing line in the dispensations of the ages. In Genesis 1:1 we have the founding of the world (Hebrews 1:10 = themelioo), but in Genesis 1:2 we have its overthrow."

When God put the souls of His children into flesh he, "set (or, hid, made obscured) the world (ages) in their heart (mind), so that no man can find out the work that God maketh from the beginning to the end. (Eccl 3:11)

Therefore, being born innocent, not knowing eternity past, they are now free to choose between God and Satan.

(Deu 30:15) See, I have set before thee this day life and good, and death and evil;

Greetings LadyL,

Do the two of you have any children? If so, why? For entertainment?

IF God created this mess we are in, what could He have done to prevent it? Not create the angels who are His servants and created for the purpose of "serving us"? Create man as "robots", so that we had NO CHOICE in the matter of our destiny?

Or did He LOVE us enough to "make us in His image" with the power to CHOOSE between Him and evil?

The Bible tells us clearly that though He knew that man would sin, that He still loves him, and because nothing evil or sinful can live in the presence of such a Holy God, that He made a way through Christ by which we are enabled to come to God based on the righteousness of Christ and NOT OUR OWN righteousness.

For an unbeliever who persists in NOT believing after reasonable argument, it is because they CHOOSE SIN OVER GOD. If your husband is SINCERE and really wants to KNOW what this whole creation is about, then he can go directly to God and ask Him for wisdom on this subject:

James 1:5-8 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. 6 But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. 7 For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord. 8 A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.

Notice the highlighted portion. Again, if your husband is SINCERE, and really wants to know, he can go to the SOURCE Himself and God will provide an answer. God won't hold your husband's sins against him, and He won't "upbraid" him for them or for asking such a question. BUT THE QUESTION HAS TO BE ASKED and the best answer IS from the SOURCE.

Blessings,

Dad Ernie

In Gen 6:3 For my spirit shall not dwell in man forever, for he is but flesh, therefore his years shall number no more than 120..."

"God created man in the image of himself, in his image he created them, male and female he created them." Gen 1:27

Our God made the world and all that it contains that he might dwell, in us, and through us perfect his work. Why? Why does the artist create? Why does the composer make music? Because God, in his splendor, sought to make a perfect-beautiful, wonderful, universe.

In this life we will not know God's purpose for making all these wonders, for ordering the universe so that his children could craft themselves, becasue that is what we do - we make our souls as we make our way through life, we choose God, or the world.

We were made to glorify God but ever since the fall of Man when Eve was deceived by the serpent and thus ate the forbidden fruit and convinced Adam to do the same, that's when Sin took control. It is through the blood of Adam & Eve that we are all born sinners and thus, we sin and we are not righteous. The reason the bad things happen to us and why we live through hardships and mountains of trials & tribulations is because these are the results of Adam & Eve as said in --

"The man said, "The woman you put here with me-she gave me some fruit from the tree, and I ate it." Then the LORD God said to the woman, "What is this you have done?" The woman said, "The serpent deceived me, and I ate." So the LORD God said to the serpent, "Because you have done this, "Cursed are you above all the livestock and all the wild animals! You will crawl on your belly and you will eat dust all the days of your life. And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel."To the woman he said, "I will greatly increase your pains in childbearing; with pain you will give birth to children. Your desire will be for your husband,
and he will rule over you." To Adam he said, "Because you listened to your wife and ate from the tree about which I commanded you, 'You must not eat of it,'"Cursed is the ground because of you; through painful toil you will eat of it all the days of your life. It will produce thorns and thistles for you, and you will eat the plants of the field. By the sweat of your brow you will eat your food until you return to the ground, since from it you were taken; for dust you are and to dust you will return." - Genesis 3:12-19

which I'm sure you are aware of. The thing is, people often tend to really blame God about all of the bad things that happen in the world. It also tends to show us that we are very selfish when something doesn't go our way and we can be quick to desert God. However, that is why we are justified by Faith alone in the Son of God who came, loved us, served us and died for us. God loves us and John 3:16 proves that but it is sin that man becomes the slave of and thus, leads him/herself into destruction in the end of the road.

God created us for himself because he loves us and wants us with Him always. Suffering entered into the world through a free will choice to sin, to not love God back which is what sin is. He allows the evil so that good may come of it and in this case that would be the choice Adam and Eve made to reject Him that we may also chose to accept His love freely with the help of His grace because love is not love if it is not given and returned freely. He did not abandon us in this valley of tears; He became one of us and saved us from it. He also endued all this suffering for us.

This is not our true home, this is a journey to our home. We can't be guaranteed perfect happiness in this world, only in the next.
