well their is a differece betweem murder and killing evil off. So while today many christians debate on this it is murder when you harden you're heart towards a single person and kill him but during the time of battle for defense it was ok when david took his action. Becuase God was by his side.

Was it "ok" for God when the young David killed Goliath??

Just wanted to ask that. I want some answers.
Well there is killing and then there is murdering. In self defense and things like an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth it becomes ok. It's more like "tThou shalt not murder".

Goliath blasphemed God, and this was in a war. God made provisions in the old law for war.

Also, I will repeat the poster above me, not all killing is murder. "You shall not commit murder" is more of a straight translation.

To make things more exact, the word used in "Thou shall not kill" is the Hebrew word rasah. This word does mean murder and, as others have said, murder is taking of an innocent life.

yes, I agree. But also that killing people that are "innocent", by that I mean not attacking you in the first place, I think this is murder, whether done in the context of war or not. God's people in the old testament had God's backing in physical war, we as God's people now have God's backing in spiritual war.

Like others have said, it is "Thou/you shall not murder"

When you kill an enemy soldier in war it is usually not murder.

I would definitely agree with this. Murder is inentionally killing someone for no real reason... capital punishment and war are justified killing.

Here is the question, was golliath even alive? Makes you think doesnt it lol. Dead being alianated from God....meh thats just something random to think about.

But they are right, the difference is that one killing is murder, and the other is not.

Actually, that is a potentially terrifying thought. If you are suggesting that Goliath was "dead" because he was alienated from the "God of the Israelites", the extention of this is that anyone who is not a Chrisitan (or Christian/Jew or a Christian/Jew/Muslim... depending on your particular perspective) is not technically "alive" and therefore not subject to any of the biblical laws/guidelines that teach us how to live our lives. This sort of though could be perverted into thinking that it is okay to kill any _________ (pick a religious affiliation) that you want because they are not technically "alive".

BUT, Jesus taught inclusiveness. The Good Samaritan, the woman at the well, the fraternizing with leppers.... these are all stories that teach us that we are all human and all alive... regardless of the particulars of our identities. According to the teachings of Jesus, Goliath was very much alive and to be loved accordingly.... though I do agree that his slaying was biblically justified.... but not because he was not "alive".

Peace.

Killing is not justified just because someone says it is war.

If there are 2 armies fighting against each other, and both armies have some non-christian soldiers and some christian soldiers - which army is on God's side? is it justified that they are killing one another, maybe, fellow christians?

In the old testiment it was obvious which side God was on but things are a little different since Jesus came.

Jesus taught us how to live, and this didn't include killing one another. We can't expect the world to live by this, but we should be setting an example, being different from the majority. In this way, we are like David and evil is our Goliath.

Capital punishment! - I won't even go there.
