  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hi everyone, a question- do you experience the supernatural joy of the Lord? If so how often do you experience it? I do not have it, I have never had it, I felt it for about 5 minutes after I got saved and then it left and has never come back. I talked to my pastor and he said that he experiences it on a daily basis. Also do you experience supernatural peace? I do not have that either. Thanks!

On the peace of God.

On the Joy of the Lord.

Similar to the linked post above, the basic way of looking at it is, part of our subconscious takes up space and is causing stress and other undesirable reactions.

The solution is to over time replace the reflexes associated with those reactions with trusting God, working with God, praising God, Prayer to God, and other Christ centred activities on your own time.

The key is relying on God for it, instead of ... distractions.

In Catholic lingo that would be called 'consolation' and the opposite would be called 'desolation'. Not exactly emotions but practically you can treat them as if they were. It's great to have such joy and a bummer feeling being lost and alone. But you keep on, pray, help people, live for God whether you are feeling it or not. Don't make any profound decisions when you feel desolation. Be cautious about profound decisions when you are feeling consolation. Most of our lives are in the middle, with occasional minor consolations and occasional minor desolations. Not to be critical about those who claim continual supernatural joy but it's normal not to have that. Acceptable but not normal.

But here's the thing. We can have an enduring joy just in the fact that God loves us. We can show that joy. We can act on the love that has been given to us. Mother Teresa started work as a sister with incredible supernatural joy. And then it went away. But she kept on caring for the dying and spreading the hope that was in her even though she was quite dry in the consolation department. She would pray for a miracle and she would get it. She saved innumerable dying and destitute folks, providing a happy death for so many. She showed joy in her life even while she didn't feel it. Because she knew it once and she still believed it was saved up for her in the future.

You don't need those consolations. If you get them be thankful. If you don't then OK. Don't worry that you don't have what someone else does. God can give you what you need. Maybe your pastor needs more.

Peace is there but we get anxious. What did Jesus say? Be not afraid. Set your soul at rest in Jesus. There is where the peace comes from.

It's about being at peace even amidst any storms. Understand God is in control and will work out things for us ... may be seen may not be seen. We trust Him no matter what.
