  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

science is a very interesting subject but much of it's teaching contradict the bible. So how can I be a student of it? Probley the things that interest me most about science is arcitexture, electronics, mechanic and aerodynamics. Guy science lol. 4 fields that work because there deeply rooted in scietific method. My issue is there understanding of how things work is often non biblical but yet they make these structures and machines work. As a person interested in how it works I'm confused, because I know that some of the advancements being done could not be done with out their faith in the big bang. By searching out the universe to the most minute level you came up with the adom. And without the knowledge of the atom electronics could not work. The science of the atom isn't the issue but the field dedicated to discovering further and further, so it seems have no belief in god but yet without there contributions there is no advancement in the technology I love.
I'm not exactly sure how much theories are non biblical that grant our advancements I'm sure there out there. My conflict is that I know it's true but how to ballance it out. Please help written with honesty.
I'm a maintenance man by trade, so my field causes me to become knowledgble in every field pertaining to structure, what's inside and outside. Naturally I desire to become good at my job and understand the techan

I don't buy this.

Any scientist trying to convince me that he can't do his job unless he believes in the Big Bang paradigm is not fooling me one bit.

If they can't take what they've got right there in front of them and work with it, they don't need to be in a whitecoat -- in my opinion.

If tomorrow, the Big Bang gets busted by the Big Bounce, then all that yak about, "We couldn't have done it without believing in the Big Bang" goes down the black hole.

I get tired of Gaea's prophets telling us they couldn't have done it without believing in deep time, or a local flood in Noah's time, or no Jews in Egypt, or whatever.

That doesn't cut it with me.

Are you consol?

Is Israel entitled to their land because God promised it to them?

Just a YES or NO, please.

If you can't answer without giving me a paragraph, I'd prefer you just not answer.

I have a niece that can answer that in a heartbeat.

I'm totally non-religious, but I don't see that the Bible explicity contradicts all scientific principles. For example, AFAIK, it doesn't negate the atomic theory of matter, or the conservation of energy.

And it's only a very literal, inerrantist interpretation of the Bible that contradicts things like the standard model of cosmology, and various theories of biogenesis. I've never quite understood why someone must believe the Bible is factually correct in every detail, anyway. The Bible was written to appeal to one's moral, psychological, and emotional sensibilites. Can't you still be a good Christian without thinking that the Bible is a biology and physics textbook?

I have a feeling, since you didn't address this point at any one person in particular, the Internet scientists here aren't going to answer this.

I mean, it depends on how you interpret the bible, if you see it as literal then you will have issues with science, it is unavoidable.

However, most Christians don't read the bible as literal and use it as a source of inspiration and guidance on morals etc. but not as a science book.

Science and the bible can work fine together, just ask most Christians on this planet.

Yes -- science and the Bible should work fine together, but they don't; and when they don't, science can take a hike.

Using the Bible for a science book is like trying to use Bill Gate's diary for a computer manual.

You might want to talk to some Christians who are not Biblical literalists.

Of course, any atheist can tell you that the Bible is not a science textbook and you can derive meaning from it without taking everything it says about nature literally. But I thought you might get more out of a conversation with a fellow believer :)

I don't buy this.

Any scientist trying to convince me that he can't do his job unless he believes in the Big Bang paradigm is not fooling me one bit.
Cosmologists' eyebrows are rising around the world.

There's no point in me throwing The Relativity of Wrong at you, is there? :sigh:

I get tired of Gaea's prophets telling us they couldn't have done it without believing in deep time, or a local flood in Noah's time, or no Jews in Egypt, or whatever.
Y'know, I'm sorely tempted to make "Gaia's prophet" my user title.

Is Israel entitled to their land because God promised it to them?

Just a YES or NO, please.
I feel the need to point out that your question is at least two questions. (1) Is Israel entitled to their land? (2) If so, is it because God promised it to them?

Thus, unambiguously answering it requires at least two yes/no answers, even if those are "yes and yes".
