  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Do you have any trouble reconciling the immoral (when viewed in light of the Bible's absolute moral teachings and commandments) system of Free Market Capitalism, which rewards pure human greed and envy, with the selfless anti-materialistic teachings of Jesus?

Do you think that Jesus would tolerate the inequities inherent to Capitalism?

Best,

Jon

Reward for Labor is a neutral issue. Like anything that God establishes and sets proper boundaries, there will be a desire to pervert it by going beyond those boundaries. Your question is absent of recognizing that God is in control and such is allowed for a grander purpose.

Greed and envy has its reward already. A system cannot be immoral, a moral person can live both under a communistic or capitalistic regime.

We're a society dominated by amassing and accumulating stuff and capitalism affords this. The teachings of Jesus have never pointed to having stuff as being bad. It's when you elevate that stuff and pursuit of it above Christ that it is not good.

If Christians have an abundance, then no one else in the church should have a need that is not met for we are to take what we have and make sure that those needs are met.32All the believers were one in heart and mind. No one claimed that any of his possessions was his own, but they shared everything they had. 33With great power the apostles continued to testify to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and much grace was upon them all. 34There were no needy persons among them. For from time to time those who owned lands or houses sold them, brought the money from the sales 35and put it at the apostles' feet, and it was distributed to anyone as he had need. Acts 4:32-35

There is a place for capitalism, but it must be in line with God's order for all things.

Allow to make it clear that I am not advocating Communism with this post.

Thanks,

Jon

Oh, don't worry.

Actually, from my understanding, Christ would probably lean towards an anarcho-democratic socialism. Not the democratic party, but certainly not the bourgiosie republicans.

Everything I've read would indicate that he would want to keep what you earned fair and square (unlike the way Communism has gone thus far), but would like for people to support each other (unlike capitalism).
