  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

A question about prayer.

When Jesus said don't pray with vain repetition what did he mean? All of the examples of prayer we have in the Bible are long repetitive prayers. Like the Lord's Prayer for example. It asks God for his will and not our will to be done like 50 times.

Or David's prayers in the Psalms. They're long and repetitive. So, what exactly was Jesus saying when he said not to be long and repetitive in your prayers?

More than anything ...be original from the heart. Prayer is you speaking to God what is on your mind what is in your heart, thanking Him for His goodness, praising Him for all He has done ....but in your words.
There are no special secret words or prayers that actuate Gods reciprocation, man dreams that stuff up. Believing in the promises with action is what actuates results ...but prayer is you communicating your blessings, love, or needs from your heart to your heavenly Father.

Key word is vain. Empty, idle and hollow.
Blessings.

Well who was He talking about? They prayed to be heard.. LOOK AT ME. It was not from the heart. Hmm from what I see some still do not have a full understanding of prayer :)

One who was He talking to. One were talking OT vs NT and yes the so called lords prayer was under the OT. Now how did they pray in the NT. Now you know He heard you you know He answered you. You don't have to keep asking begging you know His will for HIs will is His word. And as we read in the NT it was always IN JESUS NAME! For me I can give you story after story where I pray and remind Him of what He said "you said out of the mouth of two or three". I wanted to hear again.. I said sorry I know I am called but can you tell me again because you said out of the mouth of two or three.

So that night at Church it was Sunday just before Church that night I asked this. So for the 1st time ever in that Church and never again 3 people came up to me saying you should be in the ministry or preacher so forth so on. I remind Him of what He said.. not that He forgets but like in a court.. He always always keeps His word.. I speak it from my heart not for anyone else to say SEE ME

Matthew 6
9 Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy name.
10 Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
11 Give us this day our daily bread.
12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

Hmmm, having trouble counting all the way to "50" here ;)

@Maria Billingsley is correct, the repetition of prayers isn't the problem .. cf Luke 18:1-8.

God bless you!!
