I guess I AM a Tenor of the conversation -- even though I am not in the choir anymore
this is page 14 of this thread -- that began with an OP asking about
"differences between Southern baptists and Methodists"
Godzilla - the preacherinblack -- has not been around into his own thread for a handful of pages of responses now
and this thread has evolved or devolved into an OP-less hodge-podge
yet I think the disturbing issues of race relations
are involved in "southern Baptists vs Methodists"
I am in Waco Texas amidst a potload of Southern Baptists and there are many Methodists here also
I couldn't speculate whether the racism of the southern Baptists here could still beat up the racism of the Methodists
I wish Colin Powell would have been President; I don't like Obama not because of his color but because of his commitment to a far leftist agenda over and above a commitment to the nation he is supposedly leading, and especially a lack of commitment to securing our borders and an "apologetic stance" to those that are now beheading us (which is kind of hypocritical, seeing he will drone-bomb the bee-jesus out of 'em - just won't ever utter the words "Islamic Terrorist" even as heads are LITERALLY ROLLING off of the muslim blades)
So there are always uncomfortable social issues to discuss and maybe Methodism will always involve more than splitting hairs over predestination, baptism, and falling from grace
I would also say that I was thinking earlier today that I see my time spent in various other churches BESIDES Methodist as an ENRICHMENT to my Christian experience -- not as "being blown about by every wind of doctrine" or "being indecisive" or "changing faiths as fast as I change underwear"
and I wish we could use more than one "faith icon" - but rather put one up for every church we have had positive experiences in - use a whole handful of them
Raised Methodist - present at the ceremony in Dallas wherein the "United Methodist Church" was officially formed -- I have also been a part of Baptist - Lutheran - Episcopalian - non-denom charismatic - Roman Catholic - Unity -- and back into United Methodist
So I don't know about the tenor of the conversation - but Godzilla seems to have booked -- and we maybe talking amongst ourselves instead of enlightening Southern Baptists about Methodist beliefs
As far as Tenors - many years ago, they wanted me, Pavarotti, Carreras, and Placido Domingo to get together and do this project that was gonna be called THE FOUR TENORS.
The first night scheduled for a rehearsal -- I had a prior engagement and missed it -- AND THEM SUNUVAGUNS WENT ON WITHOUT ME!!
Called it THE THREE TENORS !!!
perhaps you saw it on TV
