• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Hi all,

I have had this struggle with lust since I was approaching my teenage years. It has only become a battle since I have re-committed myself to Jesus just this past summer. Sometimes, with the grace of the Spirit, I am victorious. Sometimes, due to a complete negligence of the Spirit's presence, I succumb. I have told two people already to pray for me but I would really like to overcome this problem of lust. I believe it can be won if more people prayed for me.

Thank you my brothers and sisters in Christ,

Hi - 1st of all let me tell you that from before the creation of this world God knew about this thing/struggle that you are having.

I also struggled with lust at one stage of my life and i probably went through the same stuff that you are experencing. What I did was i started to get busy, got a part time job, got involved in the church full-on, plus all the school work and stuff at home kind of kept me really-busy to the point where the problem eventually went away.

Now by all means thoughts come into my mind every now and then and what can i say, I am weak and lust (to certain degrees) is one of the things all guys struggle with on a daily basis.

So be strong and Ask your heavenly father for strenght every day.
I'll keep you in my prayers.

rockwell made very good points/suggestions

Consider trying this:

Completely commit yourself to refraining from any acts/thoughts of lust for a more lengthy time that you could conceive possible. Such as a month, two months, three, whatever you think would present a very good challenge to you. And be generous with the length.

Through that period, use your faith in Christ to persevere. It can only possibly help Christ's strength grow inside of you. Approaching the end of that time period, consider extending it even longer.

Regardless, I believe that if you harvest Christ's strength and focus on him through that period, you will end it knowing you can deny these feelings at any given time, through the strength you obtained with and in Christ.

Good luck, and I will certainly pray for you :)
